KC05Leg Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 So, when I bought my LGT, it has some scratches and marks on the center console around the shifter. I couldnt get them to come off, so I decided to go to a fabric store, and found some vinyl that matched the dash. After taking the two side pieces off, and removing the center piece and ashtray, I just used some spray adhesive, and worked the fabric onto the pieces. It takes a bit of time, but once you start, you will get the hang of it, and it will go much quicker. Makes a pretty descent look IMHO. Figured I would post it up for anyone who is looking to dress up the interior a bit. http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/FlyRy82/100_0204.jpg http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/FlyRy82/100_0206.jpg http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b308/FlyRy82/100_0208.jpg
RochNY91TSI Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Looks pretty good, but it sort of makes the ash tray stick out. How would it look if you covered it up too? Nice clean interior btw!
welby Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 That looks great, if you ask me. I bet 95% of people would think it's stock. Looks like a great way to cover up some banged up pieces, good idea !
hollatchaboy Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 wow, great idea! i've got a crack in the plastic below the chrome trim around the shifter... that would alleviate my problem greatly! thanks for the idea
dipren443 Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Outstanding. You have made my day. I was just contemplating how well this would work. I just want to do the side pieces on mine, but it looks like I will be pushing forward with the idea.
Mitch Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Amazing. Looks so good. Bravo Zulu If I'm going faster than you, Move Right.
dv8ingvector Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Wow actually looks pretty classy. I think i would add a shift boot and paint ashtray black or maybe just do the sides, but i like it: nice work!
RayC Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 kudos to you, sir. i absolutely hate working vinyl.
christurismohk Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 wow! Looks great! care to share the cost?
Guest heightsgtltd Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 I really like it. Nice job. Looks classier than OEM
Gmoe Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Very nice! Any way the ashtray could be covered as well? Would really complete the look.
sactojesse Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Wow! When I read the thread title, I was expecting something that looks like it came from a trailer park, but that looks great!
grimbeaver Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Looks pretty good, but it sort of makes the ash tray stick out. How would it look if you covered it up too? Nice clean interior btw! Yup thats the only thing that stuck out at me as well. Looks good otherwise!
KC05Leg Posted February 20, 2008 Author Posted February 20, 2008 As far as covering the ash tray...........I am sure it could be done, but I couldnt figure out how. The vinyl makes it a pretty tight fit, so in order for it to still open and close, I couldnt wrap it. I dont smoke, but I wanted to be able to use the power outlet. I am sure you could paint it, or sand down the area around it to make it work. I think I payed like 10 bucks for the vinyl, and only a few bucks for the glue. I got WAY more fabric than I needed, and I think I got a 3-4 foot square. It took me about 30 minutes - 1 hour to finish, but like I said, I took my time to make it look right.
harman.khinda Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 I use my ashtray so much there's a worn black spot from my finger opening and closing it. I have various nicks and scratches in the same area. excellent solution.
Zimm Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 Tis would look incredible with the black stereo and ash tray like HighlineCA was doing for the double din mods!
mach_six Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 I was goign to ask what you did and didn't even notice it was black trim...nice job.
eb50 Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 the vinyl is cheap. i bought some from jo ann fabric for my nuvi install.
Sponge Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 You could sand down the ashtray sides some to create more of a gap for the vinyl? Looks great! My vB Gallery
KC05Leg Posted March 13, 2008 Author Posted March 13, 2008 You could sand down the ashtray sides some to create more of a gap for the vinyl? Looks great! Yeah, you probably could, I just didnt get that in depth. You could also pull it off and just paint the face of it also, but I dont know how good that would look over time. It would probably be easier to sand down the edges of the center trim around the ash tray though, since there is less plastic material on that side than there is on the sides of the ash tray door. It would be really nice if you could incorporate the silver trim piece on the ash tray door to the outside of the vinyl. That would just look sharp.
