I-70 Today....WTF!

Headed up to Breck today, figured we'd get in a couple of runs and hit up Breckenridge Brewery.

Snow was pretty good, still not much open, but it started coming down around noon. Well after a beer or two we headed back home and found ourselves in this :spin: ....

(sorry for the camera phone pic)

This pic was after the stand still and not even in the worst spots.

It was a dead stop from the Dillon exit until about 1/2 way up to the tunnel. There must have been 20+ cars stuck, or being pushed up the mtn. It was seriously nuts, tow trucks, people pushing their FWD cars up the highway. I don't think I have ever seen so much chaos on I-70.

Damn glad I was in the OBXT, slipped a couple of times starting off, but it was basically a slalom course getting around the other cars. It did make me happy I am getting new tires on Tuesday...the RE92's are about gone.

Freaking nuts.

Drinking and driving FTL

Nice snow though... if those people had winter tires they would not have any problems. Why would someone live in Co and not buy dedicated tires for the snow, ice, and low temps?

2 beers FTW, 6 beers FTL.

And someone would live in CO without dedicated snow tires because the vast majority of the time the roads are perfectly clear and FWD or AWD + all seasons have served me fine.

EDIT...unless you are saying that M+S all seasons are acceptable, and then I agree.

I went to Vail on Saturday, even worse...

On the way back we got stuck going over Vail pass because there were semi's getting stuck all over the place, then after Frisco (as you know) it was a nightmare. Took 4.5 hours to get from Vail to Denver.

BTW, we were in my friends Chevy Cobalt and while we slid a little from a dead stop on the ice we never even came close to getting stuck.

Driving in the mountains in a car that can't handle snow or ice FTL!!

I went to Keystone on Sunday and it was okay except the semi driver hit by stupid driver. I just passed after the accident and didn't know why...

I saw a stupid Civic from Loveland to the west of the Tunnel. He kept changing lanes but always couple of cars in front of me. On down hill he moved to 2nd lane and followed semis with several fish tailing...

My LGT was on Hankook Ice Bear 225-45-17.. It worked good... On the way home I took Loveland Pass and no problem.. I will go to Breck this week.. See you guys on the mountain...

From Desert to Rocky to SLC !!!

You should have seen it tonight. Your pictures are NOTHING compared to the disaster on I-70 up the hill to the Tunnel.

It took us 2 hours to get to the tunnel (2 hours, 2 minutes courtesy of the computer's ET calculation).

Over all, I spent 8 hours in the car today ... Snow was good, but it wasn't worth it.

great example of more idiots moving to CO

Should have hit the right foot a tid more.

I disagree with the bad drivers being from other states. No state I've ever been to produces drivers as god-awful as the drivers I find in Colorado.

I don't know what it is, but driver's here couldn't find their way out of an empty parking lot because they wouldn't have anyone to tailgate, no one to needlessly pass, and there's no median to crash into.

I love this state, but it produces retards for drivers.

i've had some close calls so far with colorado drivers, and i grew up driving in jersey. the only thing that really bothers me around here is the abuse of left-hand lane drivers. that's the passing lane, driving is the right-hand lane! granted i've never had to drive in more than a few inches of snow before, so i'm not giving myself the highest expectations of my snow skills driving. i did hit a curb today after all...

Still not buying it. I've been all over California, and while people drive a little crazy there, the traffic still flows. I've never been anywhere in California where traffic will be moving along at 70, then inexplicably everyone is doing 40, then 2 miles later everyone is doing 70 again. I've also never seen someone in California use the Median to pass a single car while stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic.

The kind of awful drivers I see around here are unique to this area.
