Focus more on keeping your subject in focus and the exposure settings to what your looking for more then the framing. What you mentioned about i do that anyway, i'm talking 'overall framing and composition of my picture, stuff not having to do with selective cropping, but choosing a scene and deciding what elements i want to include/exclude and where i position them in my picture.
