Bluetooth?

Hey guys - do any of you have a Bluetooth solution for your Leggies? I've seen threads about what people do, but some of them were old. I wrote SOA and got a response that the only vehicle in their lineup to have Bluetooth will be an update on the '08 Impreza/WRX soon. Think they might offer some modification for current generations across the board? I certainly don't want to void my warranty by wiring in something aftermarket. Thoughts?

And my 2 cents (on the last page of that thread):

Having been in the wireless phone business for some time (just not right now), I would like to recommend a specific Bluetooth unit that works like a charm. The Tellphone 4200. (and I really don't have anything to gain $$ by recommending this)

I actually had it installed on a number of customers' cars and it worked flawlessly with every one of them. Cost looks to currently be about $250 plus installation. I would recommend trying to get a professional to install that will cut as little as possible into any of the in car harnesses (hopefully not at all).

The 4200 system:

And some system enhancements:

Not sure that I would attempt a DIY; I personally would recommend using a professional so you have a fallback just in case a dealer refuses a warranty claim (or something to that effect). Even better; ask your dealer if they have someone that will do the install, with no risk of voiding any part of the warranty on your car.

Standard 2 year warranty with limited lifetime warranty if you register the unit within 30 days.

I have the Parrot CK3100. I have it mounted on my left side vent. Sound is great... even at highway speed with my borla exhaust singing. I am in my car all the time on business and this is a great system.

Sound and voice quality is better then my phone!

I had mine installed by a buddy who owns and audio shop.

I picked this up from Buy.com for $65 and amazingly, it works great. Battery powered -- I have been using it for 2 weeks on the original charge with maybe 2 conversations/day and 1hr standby. My voice is loud and clear and the receiving speaker is loud enough, albeit a little tinny.

Okay guys - went to a car audio shop today to get some quotes. Basically, the Telephone system would be about $600 - installed. Then he told me they have a model that work with the factory nav. Basically, you push a series of buttons to code the phone, which then pops up on the nav screen. However, that one was 1K + install. Not sure if it is worth it for me. It would take A LOT of tickets to pay for something like this. Are these quotes any good? Should I try maybe Circuit City or Best Buy???

Alright - the more I research, the more I get confused. After looking on Circuit City's website, it appears I can have a unit bought and installed for about $300. But, I've got to wonder, is it worth it? Would just a simple plug and play like the Blue Ant's work just as well? Anybody with any information on usage, quality, etc. - it would be much appreciated!!!

Check the dealer locator for someone to do the install; I've seen the unit on its own for about $230 to $280. On top of that you might need a custom harness adapter (less cutting and more functions) to allow for muting, etc (maybe another $100 or so in parts). They should be able to tell you what else is necesssary for your specific installation. $600 doesn't sound out of line for a full install but I've had Mercedes and BMW models done for in the $450 -$500 range (allowing for a small markup on my end - wholesale cost).

Good luck with the search. It's well worth the cost for the installation, especially if you plan on keeping your car for a while. If you do go with one of the Tellphone models, don't forget to register it for the lifetime warranty.
