I have perrin pipes from the turbo back right now. I love the way it sounds and women do to, along with the police. I have gotten a pair of panties left in my car by a hot female, 2 speeding tickets, and been threatened to be arrested for speeding both times I have been pulled over in the past couple months since putting on the turboback. When you have the big shiny mufflers on your car its a bulls eye because the sound and look. If you get pulled over for speeding with cans on you have no chance of ever getting out of a ticket, not to mention the cop will treat you like you're trying to be fast and the furious.

I had never been pulled over the year and half prior to putting on the exhaust. If you're worried about the 5.0 I would definitely keep stock mufflers on. Straight pipes would be crazy loud, I bet it sounds great but I just couldn't deal with the attention from the police. Replacing your mid pipe and y shouldn't increase sound that much with stock mufflers. I will let you know how much quieter my exhaust is when I put stock cans on in a couple weeks.

most of my videos are all straight pipe sounds, but I run with a stock turbo and stock up and down pipe and the stock 3rd cat is still there.

my straight pipe sounds like the Greddy Evo2 exhaust and I'm close to 50 lbs lighter.

Nah, loud is when you run a 4" catless down pipe.. that's it.

Dont ask me how I know.

i just wanna hear a 3in DP into a 3 in straight pipe tapering into a 2.5 tail or a 3 in tail.

i think i know someone who is going to be doing this.;)

4 inch straight, turbo-back? I'm sure words couldn't describe how loud. To need a 4 inch exhaust you would have to be pushing a huge amount of horsepower. What exhaust was that on? Any soundclips?

no, I mean, just the 4" inch downpipe.. no cat-back or pipe extension other than a turn-down pipe to make sure the flames are shot down at the ground intead straight back..

This was off my WRX.. I could have cared less about scavaging.. besides, Turbo Porches don't care either :

oh, when you run something like a T-88, I think that's when you need a 5" downpipe tapering down to a 4":

just unbolt your exhaust parts at the downpipe.. you'll know how loud it is from there.

NA motors are a lot louder because the turbos on our cars actually act as a sound diffuser.

^ Keefe,

Just curious, but what kind of wheel horsepower/torque is that Porsche putting down?

back in 1970s, the Porsche 911s and 935s were putting down 550+ crank hp on a 2.85 Litre motor..

In 1978, "Moby Dick" was a Porsche 935 with a 3.2 Litre Flat-6 turbo water-cooled motor making well into 950 hp and reaching just over 223 mph in the Silverstone 8-hour enduro race.

If you wanted to know what a twin-turbo flat-6 Porsche 3.0Litre motor can do, look here (btw, this Dauer was a race car that can be converted into a street legal car making 740+ hp and 517 lbs of torque making one of the fastest 0-60 cars ever... 2.6 seconds, and it takes 5 seconds to reach 120+ mph):

here's my .02 for what little it's worth...

i highly recommend against installing straight pipes. if you're on a budget just have a shop weld on a pair of magnaflow straight through mufflers. or get a single 3" straight through muffler and save money and weight. they're cheap and they're quiet enough so that you won't piss everyone off. there is no good reason for anyone to be driving around on public roads without mufflers. straight pipes are fine on race cars that aren't driven on public roads and through neighborhoods. if someone in my neighborhood pulled that shit i would file a complaint with the police immediately.

I had a custom set up built at a local muffler shop: all 3" tube with crush bends. With one MagnaFlow and 2 nice tips I paid $400. Looks very stealth from the back and sides. http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=40436&highlight=speedracerx

It works, and I run 98% of the time with my "cutout valve" in the OPEN mode. I only close the valve when I see a cop. When I had this setup on my WRX, it led to some pretty funny stories. 115 dB in open mode, 96 dB in closed on my WRX. The change isn't as dramatic on my LGT as the flow restriction is not as severe.

If I didn't already have the DMH cutout, I would have probably used a single in, dual out 3" Magnaflow muffler as my muffler and "Y" pipe. Should be less expensive and give you what you want for sound and performance.

Speedracerx: I like your setup a lot.....what did it sound like with the valve closed?

Thanks...as you can see, I kinda do things differently (maybe not better, just different )

With the valve closed, it forces all the exhaust through the single 3" in/out Magnaflow muffler, so it sounds just like a STi with an EL header. It is quieter, and at idle there is a definite sound difference in both frequency and volume.

I have been spending my mod money on other things, so I have opted not to do a dyno check yet. Hopefully by early '08 I'll be done with my suspension and tuning so I can do a full dyno analysis.

Really though thats a blanket statment. A real mature one. Allow me to respectufully debate.

1) i am 30 years old. Not 16.

2) i am not street racing.

3) i LOVE to hear my exhaust.

Ok that being said allow me to elaborate. Like i said i am not 16, i am 30. So i am mature enough not to run through the streets of where homes are reving the hell out of the motor trying to kick a flame out and warm up a hotdog. I mean come on. IF your asking for trouble then your going to find it. I for some reason love the sound of the boxer motor. Its like a ford mustang 5.0. It puts off a sound that you just cant mimic. Know what i mean. I fully understand that this might be loud for some. And i wont dissagree. But i love it.

there's nothing wrong just creeping through the neighborhood.. heck some OTHER exhaust systems (like the BPM MKIII twister I had for my 2.0 Litre WRX was way louder than my GT).. Ask Magnetic1, he could hear me from a street over and knew when I was coming home or leaving, and that was at idle.

Rexster, so what would be a difference if your next door neighbor decided to fire up Harley motorcycle in the morning for a warm-up? Those things are way louder. Would you call the cops because owns a Harley?
