Front O2 sensor a risk to turbo?

I don't think we have to worry about the front O2 sensor breaking apart since it has a fluted metal cover over the actual sensor probe. The accepted reason for removing the EGT sensor is that the thin wire like probe is actually exposed directly to the flow of exhaust gasses and has the posibility of melting. I've pulled failed O2 sensors out of many cars with 200K plus miles to replace them and have never seen one that even looked slightly melted or warped. The threads may have been seized/stripped, but the tips always looked fine, blackened at most.
