LV-426
Hi all, New to the forum. I'm helping my friend tune up his 94 legacy "L" automatic. We did an oil change but a funny thing happened... We put the oil in but nothing ever showed on the dip stick. We put about 4 quarts in but the dip stick was bone dry? We started the car and let it run for a min and still nothing. Is there something I am missing?
rao
About a quart of oil Put in some more oil, about 1.2 quart at a time. Rob IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR CAR YOU SHOULD NEVER DRIVE IT
LV-426
We don't have any manuals for it, how much oil does that engine take?
Bdubs
The ej22 capacity should be like 4.5 qts I believe.
LV-426
The ej22 capacity should be like 4.5 qts I believe. Wow ok, I guess I need to put more oil in it, ha ha
LV-426
The reason we did this at all is because his roommate changed his oil but didn't put a new filter on and put way too much oil in. It was way way past the full line on the dip stick. But I'm confused because after we drained the oil we put it back in, only to fill it up to the proper level, but nothing ever came up on the dip stick. So we are just about to put the same amount of oil in it as it was when it was totally overfilled?
LV-426
we put it the rest of the oil and now it's only slightly over the fill line this time. Also, the oil got instantly dirty, I mean, within two weeks the oil looks sooo black. Is that a bad omen that his engine has had it?
LV-426
Ok, I can a head scratcher for you.... My friend with the 94 legacy L called me up and said his car was running really rough, so I went down and checked it out. Turns out one of his spark plugs had worked itself loose and popped out. So he was running on three cylinders. Anyways, we got new plugs and put em in and everything with fine. Well now he's saying it's acting weird again. What would make a spark plug want to pop out like that?
Bdubs
Someone may have stripped the threads on that cylinder. I couldn't imagine any other reason why it keeps working itself loose. Maybe the wires are bad as well. It could be a different reason why its running crappy.
LV-426
I got some new plug wires for his car but they totally wouldn't fit. I got them at autozone. They would go on but pop off my themselves because they weren't fitting right, I hate autozone crap.
LV-426
What would make the oil dirty instantly? The rings are shot?
LV-426
Ok, I got a new one. The car was running fine and now he reports that it sputters upon acceleration but evens out when he gains speed. He says that he can't accelerate quickly or the car will shutter. What could that be? LV-426
COil Pack Yeah? Hmmm, damn, I gotta price those. This dude is broke and I am trying to help him out so this is all bad news ha ha
LV-426
He also stated that it won't do it at the start, but it mostly happens after the car's been running for a while. If that's any help on solving the problem....
Offtrac
Sparks plugs, wires and coil pack, bottle of fuel injector cleaner and a tank of premium grade gas should do the trick

LV-426
He has said that there is a popping noise from the engine and a stuttering at around 60mph on the freeway when he accelerates or tries to pass someone
