jvcjbl
I figured I would chime in and draw up a diagram and a quick how-to for a safe remote start setup on the LGT and pretty much any subaru with the wire that shows (-) in neutral and 12v in gear. Here is the diagram I made up: http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa54/jvcjbl/nssrelay.jpg Basically this is a double redundant safety setup for a manual transmission Subaru with remote start. There is two criteria that has to be met for the proper input to the alarm. First off... the hand brake has to be set (Pin 87) and secondly it has to be in neutral (Pin 85). If it is in gear both coils of the relay will see 12v (+) and the relay will not energize disabling the car from starting. Now if the car is in neutral energizing the relay but the parking break is not set the relay will not be able to send the proper ground output to the Neutral Safety Input wire of the alarm which will still not let the car remote start. The beauty of this setup is that if your alarm doesn't have a NSS input (usually white/black wire on DEI alarms) you can tie this into your hood pin (-) input and this will tell the alarm the hood is open and it won't remote start either. I used this setup on my 2006 STI and never had one improper attempt at the car starting unsafely. I am currently using this setup on my 2008 spec.B and it is working flawless as well. 072
great writeup but that relay will be latched on all the time, while the cars in neutral, putting a draw on your battery overnight. TOM
jvcjbl
I had that same setup in my STI and never had one single dead battery... a long spell of over 2 weeks without starting it and it was 100%.... either way... just wanted to throw it out there. If you are worried about parasitic drain... substitute the constant 12v connection for the ignition wire at your ignition column and it will only power the relay when it is attempting to start the car and shut it off when the key is off. Here is the "updated" diagram for those worried about draining your batteries http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa54/jvcjbl/nssrelay3.jpg -Jason
squirrelmaster
Just for those that arent aware, that must be hooked to a true ignition wire that remains at 12v DURING cranking. most of your ignition wires will not do that
biggreen96
This is perfect! Now my car isn't taking off in gear. But damn does that click from the relay each time I shift get annoying. Got to move it out of the cabin.
