2008 Mercedes C300 Sport 4MATIC

Recommended Posts

I’m a pirate who will soon be looking at 40. Would love a Porsche but not practical too much $$$ etc… We run our own business, two kids (4 & 9), soccer dad. Thought maybe could take the European Delivery. Wife gets a vacation (she always wanted to see Europe), and I get a new car (autobahn). Could get one nicely equipped for 38k. Would be giving up the turbo but gaining a Benz. The black one is dead sexy, but my elbow would probably need surgery from all the washing to keep it clean.

There is also the 2008 Cadillac CTS, which appears to offer a higher level of interior styling, luxury, and more features for the same money as the C class.

It's definitely something I would look into first. Also, from what I read, the interior room on the CTS is on par with that of the 5 series BMW.

Are you seriously comparing the new Benz C350 with Chevrolet "luxury" CTS?

Oh well...

The ONLY, really ONLY worthy car buying from Chevy line up is the Vette, that's it!!!!

Good luck with your Benz, I rented one in Belgium last month, and the car is really solid, great to drive and really functional (didn't test the 6 cyl, once I got a diesel Avis version instead).

Umm you can get the CTS with a direct injected 3.6L with 300 hp, AWD, and better gas mileage than a C class....what a POS that Caddy is.

I disagree with the better mileage statement. I feel direct injected is a way to milk out a bit more hp and yet get cleaner emissions. I feel it does nothing for gas mileage.

Well then you are mistaken.

CTS

EPA estimated MPG 17 city/26 highway ~ 263 hp, 253 tq.

EPA estimated MPG 17 city/26 highway ~ 304 hp, 273 tq (Direct injected)

Same 6 speed auto.

A car making as much power as the DI version, if it werent DI, would not achieve those kind of numbers.

Another Example

The GS 350 ~ 303 hp, 274 tq 21 city/29 hwy (Direct injection)

The ES 350 ~ 272 hp, 252 tq 19 city/27 hwy (Same engine, no DI)

Same transmission and the GS weighs 200 lbs more.

Some more interesting DI info.

Ferrari special: new engine revolution

25 September 2007

Screaming performance and Government demands for low emissions will force Ferrari to phase in direct fuel injection within two years.

The injection system will debut on a significant upgrade for the F430 coupe in 2009 before being grafted on to the 612 Scaglietti and then the 599 GTB Fiorano.

The Italian supercar maker is working closely on the system with Bosch, the German supplier deeply involved in developing Audi’s sophisticated FSI direct-fuel injection system.

Admitting it has torn down Audi’s fuel injection system to understand its possibilities, Ferrari insiders suggest that its new engine technology will allow for a 10 per cent improvement in horsepower more and at least a 40 percent reduction in emissions.

Ferrari’s new, improved engine technology

Direct injection will bring a very different look to the Ferrari V8 when it arrives in 2009. While the 4.3-litre capacity and the block are said to remain the same, everything north will be new.

“It’s the same engine from the block down,” a Ferrari source advised, “but the injection rail will be new, the intakes will all be new, the cylinder heads will be new, the valve trains will be new and the throttle bodies will be a different type that you have not seen before.”

Ferrari GT Technical Director Roberto Fedeli confirmed this, insisting that the time had come to bring environmental efficiency to Ferrari.

“Direct injection is vital to our future. It gives us between five and eight percent in fuel economy improvements straight away.”

“We looked at Audi because they spent a lot of time on it and use it in more than one application with different engines,” Fedeli admits.

“We are working very hard with Bosch, because they worked with Audi and understand it very well. But we need some time to set up the electronics for it and to get the performance in line with the next step.”

“It will be like the steps throughout our history. Electronic injectors replaced carburetors and this will replace what we’ve had.”

However, direct injection alone won’t be enough to satisfy the emissions-saving legislation currently being discussed in Brussels, and around Europe. “We are aligned with the law now, but we are well short of the objectives of future legislation on emissions,” says Fedeli. “We are getting better and this will help a lot,” Ferrari’s research and development head said.

“If we do everything we can technically do, we might reach 250 g/km. That’s short of what’s being talked about, but it’s a lot better than the 400g/km we do now.”

It just makes sense.

The new C-Class looks a lot better in person than it does in pictures. I actually liked the look of the black one I saw yesterday. If it does well in the inevitable comparison test the magazines are going to do soon, then it will steal sales from the 3 series and IS. If it doesn't even come close to the 3 or IS, and this is a distinct possibility considering mercedes' past with this model, then we can all have a good laugh later :)

I really like the new C class, the 08 has really stepped up to the plate with upgraded interior materials.

It also helps that it is a mid 14.2-14.4 sec car that traps around 100...As I stated in another thread, I love this one!!

My father would be happy with either the caddy or the benz. He had a caddy when he was younger (fender skirts and all). Lately has been into the big Mercedes diesels. OMG I'm turning into my father.

Haha exactly. Mercedes, Caddy = Father. BMW, Audi = ME!

...though coincidently my dad drives a 3 series hmm.....
