dmiller5
I have an '08 QSM and I have the exact same thing on my wheels. Guess I will go pickup some zippo lighter fluid. I figured it was from the lug nuts.
starhm
Mine was a lubricant they (the dealership) keep putting all over the car. You will notice it running down under the doors as well when the heat makes it run off the hinges. It is on the hood hinges and anywhere else they can put it. I used 'Goo' (I think that is what it is called...yellowish-orange color) to get it off. It is a citrus cleaner and was the first thing I found to take it off. I think someone at Subaru owns stock in this crap or something. I keep expecting my car to come back dipped in the crap one time.

Legacy05
Quartz Silver Metallic??? my guess .. heh.
psi365
Quartz Silver Metallic??? my guess .. heh. Yep.quartz silver metallic. I started wheel shopping before I even actually bought the car. Just didn't know if hyperblack would be to dark or not dark enough for the car. Then I couldn't find a set that I really liked so I just decided to be lazy and wait until next spring when I would be putting the summer tires back on to get a new set of wheels. starhm
Yep, Goo Gone, thats the ticket...gets the crap right off the rims, and door jams, and body molding pieces under the door hinges, and off the hood hinges and...well you get the idea.
BigInALegacy
PSI - I found a place to get the Enkei RSV in 18" Anthracite for $570 shipped with lugs. (best online price I could find elsewhere is like $700+) If your interested send me a PM I'll tell you where. I'll end up paying just under $1400 for those, PZero Nero M&S (tirerack), with mounting and balancing (local) and new TPMS sensors (tirerack). Not bad at all. The guy has 7 sets left in 17/18", so I'd say at least 3 are in 18".
SPECB08
my dealer (Subaru of Cherry Hill) showed me when I bought my car that these wheels (spec.b) are prone to spotting and finish loss. they showed me the spots on the wheels (in the showroom) and told me they ordered replacements under warranty. well, after four replacement sets delivered with the same spotting they reveived a "clean" set that I am going to have put on next week. it is simply a cosmetic issue - so no safety issues - but it is a known SOA problem that they will fix under warranty. psi365
Good to know that I am not crazy, cause I've tried all the suggestions and nothing has cleaned the spots off.
jazzymt
Good to know that I am not crazy, cause I've tried all the suggestions and nothing has cleaned the spots off.You tried the Meguiars cleaner wax? Perhaps we're not all talking about the same thing - pictures would be most helpful. I'd take pictures of mine, but I cleaned them & sold them... psi365
You tried the Meguiars cleaner wax? Perhaps we're not all talking about the same thing - pictures would be most helpful. I'd take pictures of mine, but I cleaned them & sold them... Yes I did try the Meguiar's cleaner wax. It was actually the first thing I tried. I've tried all the sugestions that everyone has been so nice it telling me. Nothing so far has seemed to make a difference. There is no waxy feeling stuff to them (although the p/frt wheel does have the weeping effect coming from the lugs). On some of the spoked of the wheels there are spots that are a darker tint then the rest of the wheel. Also between the spokes there are round spots that are darker then the rest of the rim. I am positive it isn't brake dust. I've tried some degreaser (deluted), soapy water, brake cleaner, goo gone, zippo fluid, meguiar's cleaner wax, and some other things. The none of the dark spots seem to go away. I'll try to get some pics of my wheels and post them.

LongHiway
I'd say the next step is an abrasive polishing compound but, I think you may take the bronze finish off. Looks like a metal stain, which can happen.
psi365
The first time I noticed them my car had 200 or so miles on it. Right now it has over 800 and I've tried cleaning the wheels 3 times (everytime I've washed the car). Guess I am going to have to take it in and get the warranty involved. BigInALegacy
My marks are different than that in those pics... I have the lugnut ooze. Haven't even tried cleaning yet, too busy deciding which rims to replace them with!
BigInALegacy
With 800 miles, hell yeah I'd get the warranty involved. Tell them you wanna upgrade to Spec-B rims
GTTuner
It's called Cosmoline, a protectant that they use when they assemble the car. It removes easily with a tar remover. Correct, and it is a pain in the azz! Take your wheels off and clean inside the lug holes or the stuff will keep leaking out. I used furniture polish on mine. Tell them you wanna upgrade to Spec-B rims Those are spec B wheels......unfortunately. THe pic is actually all of the same rim though 1 or 2 of the others have the small spots between the spokes. BigInALegacy
Oh whoops... didn't even see that under the avatar! Hell yeah take it back to your dealer and show them. That's an expensive piece of machinery there, actually I think it's Subaru's MOST expensive piece of machinery! You paid for it to be perfect, Subaru should deliver! Especially with under 1000mi. on it! Just show it to them and tell them you've tried everything under the sun to get it off, if they can get it off great, if not you'd like a clean rim. I wouldn't think it would be a problem, unless your dealership is a A-O.

Dealer told me i had to wait till a SOA rep comes in, no idea when that might be http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j292/yota924x4/DSC_3480.jpg http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j292/yota924x4/DSC_3464.jpg had to put a a few where you cant see the terrible wheels to make me feel better

loc
I have a different problem. Around my center caps there are dark bumps and if I press them I can see water in them. Its almost like the clearcoat is peeling away from the rim. I contacted Subaru and said it could be covered by warranty if the dealer thinks its a problem. I'm taking it to SOS tommorow morning, hopefully they give me good news. Its seems to be getting worse. Its on 3 of my wheels.
wrx034me
i figured i would repost these since i moved around my photobucket account, they have since been replaced and the new ones are showing no problems http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j292/yota924x4/cars/DSC_3468.jpg http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j292/yota924x4/cars/DSC_3448.jpg note the car was 4 days old when i took these pics.
