Scotty
1. sure, but you might need a really big hammer. 2. if you run the boost till the point it will blow the engine, backing it off 1 psi should be safe.
meier motor sports
i would think the sti 6speed would bolt to the engine no problem. being that they share the same bolk. or am i wrong on that? heck the spec b has the 6speed right? but you would need different axels from the sti and lgt combo. but again to the spec b that would have the right axels to use. I think the couple of people around here who attempted it all found it to be a huge hassle. .

Penguin
There's this really cool tool on this site. It is called the search function. It can be found in the upper right hand corner of the web site's header. All sorts of things that have been discussed before can be found there. You may read them all at your convenience. Search grasshopper, search.
NSFW
What a bunch of pricks. The following words are either very common, too long, or too short and were not included in your search: six The following words are either very common, too long, or too short and were not included in your search: 6 The magic words are "6mt conversion" which, for someone new here, may not be obvious. In the first ~100 search results there are two threads that are even remotely relevant. On contains a message from a guy who basically said "it's a lot of work" and didn't elaborate, the other contains the recipe for doing the swap in a WRX, which may or may not be representative. Of the two threads that actually deal with 6MT conversions, 90% of the discussion is about shifting and gear ratios, not the conversion itself. For the max boost question, the magic search words are "Blown intercooler end tanks." I know that's the first thing I'd search for if *I* was new to this forum. I mean, who wouldn't? The answer, by the way, seems to be about 17psi.

sexylegacy
It's tough being a newbie around here, but it gets better, much much better. I would love the 6spd also, but the 5spd in the LGT's is actually a fine transmission that can take a TON of power and abuse before grenading. SOA basically takes a WRX 5spd and beefs it all up the way it should have been built in the first place and that's what every LGT 5spd owner gets. Of course the clutch is a different matter. Can you say: WEAK! In all honesty though, if you don't abuse your car, the clutch will work just fine for quite a while, I just wish it came factory as strong as the tranny. On a side note, post up some pics of your 300ZX TT. I don't see too many of those floatin around anymore. A nightmare to work on, but a hell of a car. Welcome to the forums! Adamaxus
The magic words are "6mt conversion" try 'tranny swap' or 'transmission swap'; it seems to yield the desired results.
LIZARD
Welcome to the show. Why do you want the 6 speed(?) There are plenty of peeps here running >17 psi with the propper tune. lizard. NSFW
There are plenty of peeps here running >17 psi with the propper tune. The OP asked what was safe.... Given the reports from people who blew the seals on their stock intercoolers at 17-18psi, I wouldn't call that safe. Of course if you want to upgrade or reinforce the IC, you can run higher pressures safely. And if you want to upgrade the turbo and injectors and blah blah blah you can run much higher pressures safely. I'm assuming the question was about stock hardware, otherwise it would be meaningless. edkwon
I just thought about this on the way back in 'ricey newb' almost sounds like 'newb on rice' which actually sounds like a pretty tasty dish. Add some light seasonings, saffron for the rice, a good recipie from a top chef like Gordon Ramsey and we might have a culinary hit. freshly killed and chopped up, lightly seared with something interesting for the stuffing, then served on a bed of rice, what do ppl think? JustCallMeNick
thanks again. hehe i guess i got used to the NICO Z32 300zx forums where i only get a couple replies. here people actually POST. :-D the only reason i would want the sti 6spd is if the OEM 5-speed in the LGT was as bad as that in the early USDM WRX's. but sounds like it's not so i wouldn't bother with it. and here's a pic for sexylegacy and anyone else who cares. thanks again you guys for your info. i'm sure i'll post more questions later. they pop up in my head all the time when i'm thinking about subies all day and night. http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o42/evansnicholasa/300ZX/IMG_3860.jpg http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o42/evansnicholasa/IMG_3865.jpg http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o42/evansnicholasa/IMG_3864.jpg http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o42/evansnicholasa/IMG_3862.jpg http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o42/evansnicholasa/IMG_3861.jpg http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o42/evansnicholasa/IMG_3855.jpg http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/o42/evansnicholasa/-4.jpg

rony
FYI, the 5MT in the LGT is not the same as the WRX 5 speed. The LGT 5MT is stronger. My Car vBGarage
zmarko
Nice Z. I've had 5 Z's over the years. My last one was a '90 300ZXTT. Fun car, until I had to replace the turbos on it. Same red color too. Good luck with it. It's an N/A right?
