Yea i saw that enclosure on ebay too but it looks like it leaves too much space in that area and probably will just rattle around for a while. I was roaming around when i saw the cas boxes on ebay! Actually I found the walkthrough thread on making a sub enclosure just like the cas boxes outta fiberglass and bondo. Seems easy enough! Ill try it next summer or spring when I finally have the ever elusive greenbacks!

I've known about these for quite some time. They were pretty popular with the STi crowd. My brother-in-law successfully copied the design into his Forester, but using a single Boston PRO12.5LF. He was able to get just over 1 cubic ft. Works quite well.

In case anyone is wondering... Those grills are JDM Bugeye Foglight covers that I custom "hacked" into the rear deck. It helped with the bass response... but it also, in my case, removed my third seatbelt... which I hated! It would flap around against the leather when the windows were open... and I never really need that third seatbelt! I still have the childseat anchors (in case I need to bring an kid/childseat one day) but I dynamated the sh*t out of all of the flappy plastic trim pieces to make them not vibrate from the bass! I've got a JL 10w7 H.O. box in the trunk and it rattles (or used to) everything... not any more!

right-oooooohh! Again... my main motive for this was to add some style and remove that flappy third seatbelt! The bass responnse.... ??? I've got enough bass response to cover all of the cars in this thread... I like the way it looks... plus, what else was I going to do with those sweet STi fog covers! They fit SO perfectly! I only wish I did a slightly better job with the black trim around them (which is actually the cheep stuff that you put on the edges of your doors)...

I'm sure that I have a bit more bass in the cabin now, but the added aSThetics and the function of removing the center seatbelt were my drivers to hack the rear deck... oh, and also It alowed me to get even more dynamat coverage, too!

I'm a little curious. In your first instruction it looks like you only drilled one little hole, but in all the other pictures people posted it looks like theres a much larger hole (as big as the mesh cover). Did you cut hole about the size of a cd or just one small drill point?

Well the little hole in the first part of the instructions was a center guide hole for the Dremel circular router attachment (assuming you have one) that you would then use to cut the (perfect) larger hole. If you don't have that attachment then you would just use whatever means you had to cut the large circular hole as shown in the second part of the instructions (the part with the CD). Hope that helps.
