RaGe
Been looking around at stuff and couldnt see myself paying what they were asking. So i decided to make on myself. So i packed me a lunch in my superman lunchbox and away i went to lowes. Parts purchased along with part numbers.(at least according to my sales receipt) 1-( one ) piece of flat steet. ( 44129 Weld Flat 1/8x1-1/2x3FT ) 1-( one ) carriage bolt ( 61930 GALV 5/16x1 ) 1-( one ) hex lock nut ( 63403 ) 2-( two ) washer's ( 5/16 ) Now what i did. I used the passenger seat as an anchor for the flat steel. I believe the total length of the steel once i got done cutting it was 13-3/4. but you can leave it longer if you would like. you can two cameras on there. One facing the front and one facing the back. But i wanted it fairly short and close to the headrest. The rods that are connect to the headrest and go down into the seat are 1/2in. Myself i put the one end of the steel flush with the one side of the headrest ( closest to the passenger door ), and made a mark on the steel at 2-1/2in, and again at 8-3/8. These will be the two holes that the rods from the headrest will slide down onto. I then drilled them with a 1/2in drill bit. On the opposite end of the piece of steel i drilled a 5/16in hole. After all the drilling i filed down the ruffness of the steel so it wouldnt snag anything, slid the headrest rods down over the piece of steel and pushed the headrest all the way down onto the seat. I used the top piece of my tripod and put it over top of the 5/16 bolt and snugged it down and taaaadaahhh. I have about $8.00 in all of this. and doesnt look all that bad either. Below are some pictures though they arent all that great due to it being dark. Figured i would give a detailed description of this if anyone wanted to try or something similar to it. http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i171/Crucifix79/legacy001-1.jpg http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i171/Crucifix79/legacy002.jpg http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i171/Crucifix79/legacy003-1.jpg http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i171/Crucifix79/legacy005-1.jpg http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i171/Crucifix79/legacy007.jpg OTM. zmarko
I have been wanting to do something like this for years now. Excellent work. How stable is it? When filming is there any noticeable vibration? Nice job!

RaGe
At first there was vibration. i had first cut the piece of steel at 18 inches. So i cut it down close to the headrest and now there isnt any vibration at all. OTM. Sorry I didn't mean to start a war which mainly forum people is all about . zmarko
How are you mounting the camera to the bar? Looks like the top portion of a tripod? Nevermind, reading comprehension owns me. lol. I just noticed in your first post about the tripod.
RaGe
if anyone is interested i can give you the new updated / modified mount. i had to switch it from the passenger headrest to the drivers side. The weight difference helped out. but here is a short video of it. http://www.youtube.com/crucifix79 OTM. Sorry I didn't mean to start a war which mainly forum people is all about . el5y
weight difference? I dunno about you but in a crash I wouldn't want that metal bar directly behind my neck..but it does seem to work well. Any issues with it tilting unexpectedly up or down? Eric

GraysonSubaru
Here is one that i use a lot that I got from ChaseCam.com. It is the bigger, more expensive one ($99), but is great quality and never had any problems with it or even any shaking. I am also going to get a smaller one that will work on areas of the car where the big one is simply too big to fit properly. I dont mount it inside the car much because of the glare from the sunlight hitting windshield and sometimes the dash. Just doesn't make for good footage to watch. Click on the links for some video footage on the dragon that was shot with the camera/mount in the pictures: (it will take a few min to load and will auto-play) http://message2.myvideowebstream.com/view/?id=X82JROU2U8G753V5G8O3 http://message2.myvideowebstream.com/view/?id=RBADIOSR3JDHRY5I8Y6D http://message2.myvideowebstream.com/view/?id=C79VDBK3WLPCLW6CJVQT http://message2.myvideowebstream.com/view/?id=8HIR8TNYPAXE6BXGPTPF http://message2.myvideowebstream.com/view/?id=FKSHAF5MNPDQGCABDTPP http://message2.myvideowebstream.com/view/?id=I0HO35NERT53VFRDSN2I

Eric weight diff as far as the passenger seat being empty and it tended to shake a bit vs the drivers seat having body weight. i had to shim the bar up a bit due to the length. i will try to take some pics again later. GraysonSubaru
I have never had any problems with it even coming the least bit loose and they do make a safety strap that you can use for the camera. friends have used the mount for their off road adventures in mud and rock crawling and they said it worked great. enthusiast
I have seen these on some photo sites. The suction cup seems to grip on any surface. Great write up here on taking pictures using one too. http://www.cullmann-foto.de/images/products/tripods/spezial/1003_l.jpg My mod list

Quite a bit bigger than a handicam, not sure if this can support it's extra weight. Need a CarPC bezel? PM me!
GraysonSubaru
when i first bought the mount, i used the old camera in the picture below for awhile to make sure of how it would work. The mount has never had a problem, even in off roading.
