My Valentine 1 install (remote display)

WI project?

Correct the LEDs are SMT. Also that panel is dense, not even the brightest light will pass through any area not already cut out.

Converting my cluster to Wisconsin specs... very complicated. WI=water injection. There already is a cutout for the low washer fluid light, but no LED in place so that one is a no brainer. I might double stack new LED's over the existing security and headlight positions to take advantage of their symbols in the panel.

Thanks again for the close-up pics.

ignore him, he'll go away.

^ I believe this is the same new member on RD.net - he'll also modify his "slim-line" to be bottom-jacked, as well as, for additioinal-cost, to utilize different-colored LEDs for both the alert bands and strength-meter.

:)

Prices are comparable to Lifespeed - who I'm honestly not sure if he's doing the mods anymore......

The extra panel showed up today! For the short time I had before I needed to leave for work, I finally figured out how I am going to integrate everything Once all the LEDs I ordered arrive, this project should not take long to finish.

The panel face is actually a large sticker with clear top. It is possible to just to remove the black layer underneath to replicate the stock dash look [read lots of patience]. As a result the V1 display is going to appear as all the other lights inside the cluster i.e Low fuel, cruise, ect. Only visible when being lit up.

Obviously you are not going to have the little descriptions from the display sticker to know what type of radar you are being tagged with, so I am going to change the Band color LEDs.

Signal Strength Bar is going to change to a gradient color pattern (2 of each)

Yellow, Orange, Orange/Red, Red

Band Type:

Laser – White

Ka – Red

K – Orange

X – Yellow

I also ordered a Blue LED segment display to test out, otherwise it will be Red.

Not to mention that since I ordered an extra cluster panel, V1 display, and a surplus of LEDs I will have everything needed to make one more of these sweet setups.

I have dealt with audimods 's remote displays before... phenomenal.

I'd love to see some slick installs kinda like these...

there's another V1 remote display in the mirror thats been circulating for years...

the info center display for the audi's was the big dream for a long time, they finallly got that right.

since people are hacking the remote display, I wonder if it could be done like LI-S4 's boost guage install, use new LED's, position them where needed...

That is basically what I am doing. Moving the arrows to the center and the other stuff on the right hand side.

One thing that is being harder then expected is the sticker cover. I did not get a chance to really dive into it, but this is what I am running into. The black on the bottom side can be sanded out to allow light to pass through, however it is still really dark compared to the stock cutouts. There has to be some trick to it.

Monday I will resume working on it.

puzzled - Bro, you're insane.:) That's just plain awesome! :)

That's truly gonna rock, and unless you join RD.net to post there, I'm simply gonna have to cross-link this thread so that your work is shown to the rest of the world. :D

I'm ashamed of the amateur level of my LPP install, when it's posted up against your V1 work!

ArcTec34 - Unless the K40 has had some more recent *independent* testing that I haven't read about, you truly will get much better performance, for less money, by looking elsewhere.

If integration is important to you, these would be devices to consider:

- If you like Escort/Bel products, the x50/ZR3 pairing, or the SR7/SRX, would be the way to go. The ZR3 and the two truly integrated systems do require professional installation by a recognized shop in order to maintain full warranty, however, so this could increase your dollar outlay significantly.

- If you like the V1, and don't mind a bit of work yourself, you can pair that with any of today's popular laser jammers, and receive full integration via the use of products by Cheetah ( http://speedcheetahusa.com/ ). Of course, should you desire, the Cheetah systems would also work with Escort/Bel products, too.

Has anyone considered mounting the V1 unit somewhere besides the front window, particularly if something else is used for laser?

For our wagon, I was thinking of mounting it at the top of the back glass. Radar sensor should still be able to look front and back, and it should unnoticeable unless you were looking directly at it.

I don't live in, but drive in VA quite often, so I don't even want to

risk it being in the front window.

a buddu of mine mounted his V1 unit to a child tether on the rear deck of his audi sedan, then put a hat over it. did a custom volume and power button install in his door panel. the radar worked fine, obviously laser not so good... but if you could find a membrane that laser could pass through, or use a black hat, and cut a hole for the sensor, you might pull it off..

as far as putting it on the back glass, that's the first place an officer will be looking as he walks up to your vehicle... you've got a better chance of hiding it in the headliner... and with the distance back into the vehicle, I believe more blind spots will be created, with the A pillars, roof, etc, whereas on the front windshield, it is a clear shot out

^ I agree with brothers TRAC3 and Fat Charlie - you'll need to stealth it out.

Leaving it in-the-open would not be viable, especially at the rear, where that's the enforcer's most-likely first approach during a traffic stop.

There's a few "hidden interior installs," but most will compromise performance - some estimate this to be by as much as 20%.

However, that's a trade-off that's relative - and should this be my own personal concern, I'd say that the trade-off is worth it.

I'll try to dig up some of these posts today, and get back here. :)

In the meanwhile, ATB, I know that this might blow your budget, but the SR7/SRX by Escort recently got *VERY* high marks from the guys at GOL. Particularly if you re-located their sensor heads (which may themselves lend better to a hidden install due to the fact that they're discrete units) to high-in-cabin, the detection ability of the SR7/SRX is drastically increased.
