jnd121
I recently changed my air filter with another OEM one and afterwards my gas mileage seemed to noticeably decrease ~2-3 mpg). Any reason why this may be? Should I have disconnected the negative terminal from the battery to reset the ECU? I wouldn't think I would have to since I replaced it with the same filter. SLegacy99
I guess you could try resetting it. Seems odd to me, but if your old one was really dirty could have an impact on things.
TomH
I had the same thing happen but after 2 full tanks of gas I'm back up then the 21mpg range and before it was like 19mpg. I didn't unhook the battery either, I just did the filter swap.
jnd121
Hmmm....maybe I will give it another tank and see what happens. If it is still eating gas, I will disconnect the negative terminal on my battery to reset it. How long do you leave it disconnected for?
Underdog
Maybe it's your driving? I notice a average difference of >2mpg between tank mileage calculations. If I had just put in a filter I'd be trying to notice the improved response and flow that I bought it for, increasing my fuel consumption (even subconsiously). SWP-LegacyGT
^ to the above. Also, when I got my Blitz drop in filter I noticed my MPG went down because I liked the "woosh" sound a bit much. Seriously though, it's probably the throttle response and it being better than your older filter.

Just ease off the "loud pedal" a bit.
Vimy101
Winter gas is also probably responsible for some of the decreased mpg. I notice about a 10% penalty from it in my experience.
TehAntiChrist
you are also filling up with winter gas now...mileage will decrease some

jp51mustang
Glad you guys brought this thead back. I noticed the same drop in mpg after my filter change. I'm only on the first tank of gas since the change so I'll wait and see what happens after two tanks. Thanks
ehsnils
Winter gas is also probably responsible for some of the decreased mpg. I notice about a 10% penalty from it in my experience. A more important factor is actually the viscosity of the oil in the transmission when the outside temperature drops.
Molal24
Yeah mine actually increased in gas mileage once I changed my filter. It's wierd though, my mileage is back down now that it is freezing cold and the winter gas has hit gas stations.
