Nickz31se-r
I still need to order gaskets so I can install the UP and DP that I have had lying around for over a month. Which way is easiest. This will obviously deduce which gaskets I will buy, so ...........survey says?
Waxiboy
Remove the entire piece as one. I think you will even unscrew less bolts this way...mostly on X-pipe heatshield.
sgt
I just removed the passenger side alone and left the crossover pipe installed, However waxiboy does make a point, but that thing is heavy!
suds2250
The crossover pipe is harder to seal. Much easier to remove the manifolds. 335HP/360Tq VF-22/1820 clone with Meth

Edgemar
Can you install the UP without removing the manifold. Also, is it wise to replace the manifold to head gaskets if it needs to come off?
Edgemar
answered my question in this thread: http://www.legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42715&highlight=install+manifold manifold should come out. You can reuse manifold to head gaskets some people do some don't.
FourMoBro
Just remove the whole thing and throw in the trash, but save the bolts and nuts. Install Perrin EL headers in its place.

Boostjunkie
I have been doing them by removing the whole manifold, but for giggles on the last car I only removed the passenger side manifold. I actually found it quicker and easier, although YMMV.
Nickz31se-r
I have been doing them by removing the whole manifold, but for giggles on the last car I only removed the passenger side manifold. I actually found it quicker and easier, although YMMV. For giggles. You sir must be a glutton for punishment, nice to see it worked out for you. I still have yet to order gaskets or a drop in filter, but I have had my AP, UP and DP since Oct. I guess I have become incredibly lazy or the stock power is just enough not to enoy. The suspension and wheels were done within a month of me having the car, aka the suspension was crap.
Joon525
I just removed the passenger side alone and left the crossover pipe installed, However waxiboy does make a point, but that thing is heavy! I did the same with no problem.
highlander
If you have access to a lift or tall jack stands, then take the whole assembly off as a unit. Remove the upper EGT sensor before dropping the assembly. Then you should be able to rotate the UP out easily without loosing the motor mounts. If you can't get that much ground clearance then do the passenger side only. The crossover pipe doesn't have to come off if you do it this way. unstablementaly
wow, i did my UP and DP today. and i didn't go thru half the crap you guys are talking about! but i did have a lift and air tools at my disposal. just one bolt for the motor mount. after you've unbolted the UP on both ends jack the engine up about 2 inches and the UP rotates right out. my entire install took under 2 hours. my vBGarage
