krzyss
Some are arguing that CAFE (or its limited scope) is the reason why SUVs and trucks have 50% of the market. Krzys
Vimy101
^ SUVs and trucks became very popular in the 90s when, among other various reasons, CAFE standards reduced US oil consumption and the price of gas fell due to oversupply. Ironic, eh?

Ironic, eh? Yeah it is. I definately think SUVS need to get better mileage. Youve got Chrysler coming out with the Aspen and a 6.1L. Why and who would buy it? Yeah, I want a fancy 11 mpg Durango. bilzebub
How about longevity? My 2.5 normally aspirated engine in my 2000 Outback has 260,000 km on it and runs, but has about 100 hp now and sounds like shit. My honda civic went far longer - so I wonder - if i buy a Legacy GT, will the increased compression make the 2.5's lifespan that much shorter, and so maybe i should get a 3.0 when the 2008s come out instead of scooping a 2006 or 2007 GT right now?
