Tide
XM and Sirius to merge? Filed under: Gadgets http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2007/01/56514341.jpg When it signed Howard Stern last year, Sirius radio picked up a lot of subscribers, but the satellite radio provider still couldn't catch rival XM which sits atop of the subscriber satellite radio heap. Sirius' new six million subscribers represented a huge jump, but XM is closing out 2006 with 7.9 million. The New York Times is now reporting that Sirius might follow the old adage: "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em." Sirius has apparently supported the idea of a merger for a while, but XM has refused to comment thus far. Because there is a lot of overlap in their offerings and because they have similar organizations, merging would lower costs and help boost the stock price, presumably. And that's where these decisions tend to be made, in the accountants' ledgers. More info after the jump. [source: New York Times via Kicking Tires]Continue reading XM and Sirius to merge? c-lo
Huh.... there is alot of carry over, but have say sirius has a few stations that are better than XM. There needs to be less talk on sirius though. If I wanted talk i'd listen to the radio. 258k miles - Stock engine/minor suspension upgrades/original shocks/rear struts replaced at 222k/4 passenger side wheel bearings/3 clutches/1 radiator/3 turbos

johnAWD
When it becomes free, I'll try satellite radio. Until then Howard can keep it.
c-lo
When it becomes free, I'll try satellite radio. Until then Howard can keep it. Free would be nice, but I've got a 30min. commute. only so much talk I can take. 258k miles - Stock engine/minor suspension upgrades/original shocks/rear struts replaced at 222k/4 passenger side wheel bearings/3 clutches/1 radiator/3 turbos
scoobydrew
SIRIUS (FTW) has now exceeded 6 million subscribers and has reached positive free cash flow. SIRIUS is catching up to XM, and XM will not just sit there and watch SIRIUS surpass them. A merger will eventually be attempted.
