fweasel
Okay, so there are a few pictures from inbetween. I started out with good intentions of taking lots of pictures, but, then I got dirty and I'd rather turn the wrench than document the progress. Anyway, this is where the stock intercooler used to be. See pictures of rclark0032's 20G for its current whereabouts. http://www.photodump.org/stored8/LGTempty.JPG And heres the PB blaster soaked turbo. Everything came right out, including one of the studs with a nut still frozen on. Ah well, I'm sure it will hold. http://www.photodump.org/stored8/LGTdpbolts.JPG We decided to take the entire manifold off in one piece as to not disturb the gaskets in the cross over pipe. I think it took more effort to remove the heatshields than the manifold itself. http://www.photodump.org/stored8/LGTpassman.JPG http://www.photodump.org/stored8/LGTdrvrman.JPG http://www.photodump.org/stored8/LGTpassblock.JPG http://www.photodump.org/stored8/LGTdrvrblock.JPG I couldn't see this side of the turbo while it was still on the car, so this picture was more for me. http://www.photodump.org/stored8/LGTVF40.JPG And a big thanks goes out to suds2250 for lending me a hand, tools, his garage, and a straw for the PB blaster. http://www.photodump.org/stored8/LGTsantaalittlehelper.JPG This project was as straight forward as everyone says it would be. It sure helped to have someone in the garage that has done it before to say, take that off, leave that alone, I have a can of that in the cabinet over there, and, oooooooooooooooh, my car didn't make that noise. No pictures of the after install because it looks like everyone else's. I used a TurboXS flex UP, as not to not offend the NC crew, a Cobb DP w/ HFC, OEM gaskets w/ a little copper spray, a Perrin TMIC (which was easier to install then the panel filter), an AVO panel filter (which was more difficult and time consuming to install than the Perrin TMIC), and a Perrin crank pulley. Job took an easy pace of about 6 hours from wheels up to wheels down including time to exchange bike wreck stories. Suds' scars are a little more wicked than mine.... ignore him, he'll go away. srgdrum
Careful.......the mod slope is a very slippery one;) It is tough not to try to get everything done at once... Kick ass wagon BTW. I've read a lot of your posts. I got the 5EAT as well. Wifey can't drive a stick!
fweasel
All those pictures and no review of the newfound power I figured a review would be redundant. Same asthmatic sprinter performance as everyone else... quick off the line, then runs out of breath. ignore him, he'll go away.
fweasel
Is everything staying together? Two gremlins to shake out. I think I'm getting a little more exhaust smell in the cabin than I should and I think the heat shield might be resonating a little. Maybe we didn't cut enough off the one side and it's resting on the DP. That, or the compressor wheel is dragging on the housing. ignore him, he'll go away. fweasel
How are you liking the lightened crank pulley? I'm happy that it hasn't fallen off. No way to tell if it helped any seeing as I made so many changes at once, most of which are significantly more noticeable. ignore him, he'll go away. fweasel
Two gremlins to shake out. I think I'm getting a little more exhaust smell in the cabin than I should and I think the heat shield might be resonating a little. Maybe we didn't cut enough off the one side and it's resting on the DP. That, or the compressor wheel is dragging on the housing. Update, stageII v2.0: Okay, anyone want a leaking TurboXS flex UP... free of charge... Anyway, tore the tray and heatshields off to have a look at what was causing my exhaust smell and sure enough, the flex joint on the UP was leaking. The replacement PDE flex UP overnighted from Harman in CA arrived this afternoon and I started on the install at 7PM tonight by myself. Had everything off, new UP on and back together in 3.5hours with a break for a beer and two brats. Quick run over to rclark0032's to chase down a CEL that apparently never existed and burned off most of the excess antiseize. Should be good to go for my 16 hour road trip this weekend. Suds, you were right. That exhaust manifold is a little trick with only one set of hands:lol: ignore him, he'll go away.
