Can the key be machined out with a grinding bit on a dremel and then bury the chip inside the key? Then cover with some super thin alum plate and liquid nails or jb weld?

Just a thought

exactly what i'm hoping to try

I wonder if the JDM or VW type key issue can be revisited now that the chip has been freed. I sure would like to lose the keyfob remote. Hmmm...

i'll get right on it. anyone have a link to buy a blank JDM (integrated with remote) that can be cut for the legacy?

Ahhhh.. c'mon, we're just being.. ourselves..

But.. to protect the chip, I would find something suitable to have it in

<snippage>

That's what I do so I don't have all my keys hanging from the ignition - just the key and fob.

Driving Gloves with a little insert for the chip. Car only starts if you are wearing the LGT Special Driving Gloves.

On a serious note, you shouldn't really have a key ring full of crap hanging from the ignition. Any lock smith worth their salt would tell you that the weight of all the stuff most people (like my wife) have hanging off the ignition key will cause adverse wear on the key and pin tumbler.

We had one key for our Toyota poop out because of the monsterous "ring of crap" that my wife had (including a 20-year old key from the study room at Michigan State that had "sentimental value" ). I made her remove everything and have a seperate ring for miscellaneous stuff like house keys, and one for the car with only the lock fob. The old useless keys got thrown away.

Be well.

If you velcro the chip to the steering column and leave the car will the key fob lock the vehicle? I know if you leave the key in the ignition you can't lock the car. I hate having to carry the key and the fob.

ebay.com search 320009832416

was supposed to come today... gonna chip it and be done

Those butterfly keys look cool. Now only if they came with the factory chip I would buy one. I'll just wait to see how yours turn out.

My wife's balls are delicious.

actually i think that particular key may not fit newer legacys.

i called the manufacturer and i can get the legacy one made (maybe with an indent for the chip, as well) if i get some other people for a group buy...

anyone want one?

hey so i thought i'd update this post a little--

as i said in my earlier post, i'm going with a "butterfly knife"-key that I found on ebay...

unfortunately it is not made as a LGT key blank...

so last night I performed some surgery...

NOTE: I BOUGHT A DREMEL.

So anyway I needed to attach the correct key to the butterfly knife... and was going to try to weld a key together

but had a better idea- undo and rebuild the butterfly knife key by cutting/drilling one of my copied keys..

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n249/Triskite/DSC01112.jpg

to make

http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n249/Triskite/DSC01118.jpg

anyway so i tried putting the chip in a little metal capsule on my keychain

but the metal blocks the EM signal so I need to swap the capsule for a rubber/plastic one...

wow... long thread... i like the switch blade idea.. looks sort of cool... :icon_cool

An idea for the STi key if you still want to do that... why not just mill out a slot for the chip on the back side, and press it in, then perhaps epoxy over it... make it up nice.... of course you'll need to find a mill.. and someone crazy enough to do it for you :icon_bigg

good job! i had an STi key for my impreza... didn't work in the doors... only the ignition... wierd :icon_mrgr

yeah that's actually what i wanted to do with an sti key,

but after looking into it (and taking an STi key apart) i found out that realistically, the chip wouldnt fit properly.

also, part of the whole idea is to have the chip easily movable if ever needed

Hi Will

Yes it will work out around $70.

Sorry to get you confused but there is no bubble the website is inaccurate. The bubble was never fully developed so the best place to put the chip is under the steering column.

Kind Regards

Tracy

uhh yeah i dont know why the "bubble" technology "was never fully developed"

i just tried it in plastic and it worked.

yay?
