Braddo
I purchased my 2006 Legacy 2.5GT Wagon on Monday and have had great fun driving for the past three days. It is the 5-speed auto. I have noticed an odd occurance and after searching the forums it sounds common. When taking off from an idle between 1500k and 3000k up to 45 MPH I hear a plastic knocking / rattle from what sounds like behind the instrument cluster. I thought it was the fuel lines as referenced but not 100% It is very noticable at 20mph Any pointers to help track this down. I called the dealer (Chaplins - Bellevue WA) and Salesmen let me down by saying yeah talk to Service. The first they can see the car is next Monday. Any pointers would be appreciated. fzanetti
I used to have that too... Please remove the panel/cover on the left, with a screwdriver you can do it.. And tighten the screws, or you can also unscrew it and use some tape or isolation material, it's not properly held up, therefore the rattles... I will try to find some pics to show you.... Good luck, Flavio Zanetti Boston, MA

I've got two rattles I'd love to get fixed, but I don't have any confidence in that dealer. Unfortunately, they're the only dealer that's convienient. psucaptainkickass
You know I have rattles too...but this is the first time that I could actually see the dash panels that everyone is talking about. Thanks Flavio!

Thanks Flavio! Np man, I am glad I was able to help!!! This dash rattle was killing me and I had to find a way to fix it... My dash was actually very loose, from the left, and after retorquing the screw the rattle went away.... This is the big thing with Subaru, they don't really torque their screws, looks like they do it manually, and people don't often have the strength to go all the way with a screwdriver!! Braddo
So after 2 trips to the Dealer - it is fixed. Chaplins in the end was great to deal with after some initial problems when they would not give me a loaner car (salesmen promised during the sales process you always get a loaner - apparently the Service department didn't get that memo). However Abbey in the Service department was wonderful. They had me bring the car back yesterday and leave it after an initial inspection last week. The tech (Rob) explained to me that in the center of the dash there was a loose bracket causing the metal and plastic knock and he tightened the fitting and padded it. He did not need to remove the dash No more rattle. This car is a great fun car to drive. Now I just need to get used to driving the Auto with the shifting buttons.
