Ever driven a Forester XT? Tell me an H6 will kick it's butt. I can imagine a rather similar tune, with maybe a little more peak. Even the Forester XT w/ AT was fast, and I'm not a fan of AT's but I had to try one to see how it compared to the 5MT. In some ways the FXT seems a little slower because it comes on rather early, but it seems to constantly be there, so I'd have to say once you're on the go, you're on the go. The H6 may be good, but I really like the 2.5T's and think they may perform as well or better. :) That's all pre-emptive, so I'll wait for the dyno specs and road tests for final judgement. ;)
The FXT is tuned to have a lot more torque than hp which isn't the case with the Legacy/OB 2.5T as far as we know. I'm just wondering if there is a basis for thinking that a turbo will have a flatter torque curve than a NA engine with the same hp.

I personally am disappointed that they are offering an OB-turbo.. I think that takes the thunder away from the GT. I would go so far as to say that it's a marketing blunder on SOA's part. GT-buyers want to be set apart from the rest. Just my opinion.

I don't think that it takes away from the GT because the OB clearly isn't a TRUE performance vehicle. Though it should now be the quickest TRUCK on the market. :D Instead of the OXT stealing the Leg GT's thunder, I believe that the lack of Leg 3.0R keeps the Legacy line from being all that it "could be". At least if they would offer the premium options on the GT, it would be good enough by me. I just get frustrated that it seems that SoA will short the Legacy from truly booming so that the Outback like can remain at the helm as the premium Subaru. How will this change when the 7passenger or the sedan based on that platform come out? hmmm, thought for another thread.

I am considering the OBXT. I think it would be perfect "SUV". and I do like the looks very much. Of course I would be leaving the realm of true performance vehicles.. but I think it's got a great look to it. The black is sweet. Since the OBXT has the 4.444 final because of the tires, I've got an idea. Get an OBXT, put on Legacy coilovers to drop it back down to a normal height, and put on some lower profile tires. There, you essentially have a Spec B (though the speedometer will be off). I'm guessing the flares wouldn't really allow for wider tires, but if so, that could be cool. And you'd get some big foglights, too. Oh, and maybe some low profile roof rails.

Where have I been? Is that the turbo version? Kevin

What I can't understand is why the "performance" version of the Outback (XT) will have a ride height that is a half an inch higher than the L.L Bean Edition. That just doesn't make sense to me. I think that the foglamps on the OBXT (Outback XT - yes the 2.5T ) make the front facia look very aggressive and attractive..

Does anybody here photochop? I'd love to see that black OBXT lowered and with a bit bigger wheels (even the same wheels but enlarged). I'm getting visions of a lowered black OBXT with 245/40/18's. That would sure be wicked. I love that it has the big pie pan foglights. Since the USDM Outback bumper doesn't look as different from other countries' OB, I'm thinking that the "problem" with the US Legacy bumper is the different styling on the lower portion and not so much the bumper extension itself.

Very nice work and I love the colors on the LL BEAN edition.

The subtle two tone interior is nice. Kudos to SoA on the wood/leather steering wheel and real wood trim instead of plood. The gauges definitely look better than the GT. Now maybe there can be a sportier Legacy with the fully blacked out gauges like the STi and what the other countries get on their Legs.

I also really like that wagon cargo tray. That's much nicer than the WRX one, which doesn't quite fit perfectly. The Bean edition, with the woodsy stuff, is nice. I imagine it will be spendy, however. Kevin

Weight should be a 75# or less difference. I'm told handling should be very close. :) As for you and that tray. Oh and conparing the gauges, the OB and Legacy ones definitely look the same to me. One with lights off, the other with lights on. Both look rather good to me. A nice step up over my MY97 LegGT.

The Outbacks at the Chicago show were REALLY high. Lot of lift on those babies. I suspect that swapping over suspension bits would involve, as people have discovered with the current genertion Outbacks, which aren't as high as the new ones, more difficulty than simply bolting on new struts and springs. Seth, you really don't see the difference? The Outback gauges are what the 3.0R get in the other countries with the silver ring that extends to the edge of the speed and rpm markings. Quite classy I'd say.

You will either want a Legacy or an Outback. Don't forget that the Outback is Subaru's bread and butter car, still. They sell more of those than the Legacy. Kevin

I also predict that you're going to see a lot of folks putting Outback grilles on their GTs, similar to the STi grille thing for the WRX. Those OB grilles look really, really nice in person, nicer IMHO than the "floating wing" design of the GT grille. Kevin
