praedet
All right, I won't be putting these on until I get my 2-piece fronts from iON, but here are some pics of the stock sized 4000 series rear rotors from DBA The Ultra cool box they come in http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e257/praedet/Rotors/DBA4000RearRotorBox_2.jpg Two pics of the right rotor http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e257/praedet/Rotors/DBA4000RearRotor1_2.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e257/praedet/Rotors/DBA4000RearRotor2_2.jpg The DBA rotors have "kangaroo paw" vanes instead of noramal straight vanes. This pic shows the back where the vanes begin. As you can see, one problem with the Subaru parking brake set-up is that the inner drum blocks some of the airflow into the vanes. http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e257/praedet/Rotors/DBA4000InnerVanes_2.jpg Lastly, one of the cool things from the 4000 series rotor is the thermographic marking. Basically, as the rotor gets hotter, these paint stripes change color. That makes it easy to see how hot the rotors are. Notice how thick the walls are! Great for heat capacity http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e257/praedet/Rotors/DBAThermographicMarkings_2.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e257/praedet/Rotors/DBAThermographicMarkingsDescription.jpg I'll post up pics of the iON rotors on this same thread when they come in! praedet
Ok, finally got the iON 2-piecers installed The first set I received was the right rotor, but the hat was machined for a 5x114.3 (STi) hub So, back they go to iON in Canada. Fast forward one month. I recieved these rotors yesterday and put them on/bedded them last night. Jack told me from the beginning that they would be slotted, and it would not change there capability in anyway. I agree since the majority of the loads are taken by the inner wall of the hole, and the front and rear edges. Anyway, pics... The new rotors are 6.5 lbs lighter per rotor :alpaca: First is the stock rotor... http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e257/praedet/Rotors/StockFront1.jpg Here is the iON 2-piece Rotor before install... http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e257/praedet/Rotors/iONFront1.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e257/praedet/Rotors/iONFront2.jpg PRETTY!!!!! praedet
So here are the iONs installed. They are slotted to remove glazing and cryoed for longevity. And here it is installed... http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e257/praedet/Rotors/iONFrontInstalled1.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e257/praedet/Rotors/iONFrontInstalled2.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e257/praedet/Rotors/iONFrontInstalled3.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e257/praedet/Rotors/iONFrontInstalled4.jpg Also, here are some pictures of the DBA 4000 Series Slotted rear rotors installed. I put them on in May, so they have a little rust in the usage areas... http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e257/praedet/Rotors/DBARearInstalled1.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e257/praedet/Rotors/DBARearInstalled2.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e257/praedet/Rotors/DBARearInstalled3.jpg Next up are the WORX Tuning springs, swaybars, swaybar brackets, and MSI Endlinks sitting in my garage. Once the brakedive is gone, this is going to be awesome Ted I bedded my SS-Ms to the rotors last night. They definitely were smoking when I pulled into my garage for cool down! I had some light deposits on the stock rotors so it is nice to have a clean surface No major testing yet, but on my drive to work everyday I usually top out at 85 and then get to slow down to 20 mph for an exit. The brakes felt GREAT this morning:fro: Extremely solid. Until this morning, I did't realize how large the deposits were on the stock rotors Ted

Xenonk
the real question is can you get them hot enough? Keefe
praedet
Hot enough for the paint to change color? We'll see... I am actually extremely interested to see if I even nudge into the green to white on a track with my current suspension. I am guessing that I will never get the rears that hot until I get rid of some dive. Yeah, these would be sweet all around, but my fronts will be even sweeter! Ted Yeah, because running the brakes up to 1200 F is going to be a bit much of braking, and I can see it happening on the track using r-compounds and track pads.. At least you know why I end up stiffening the front suspension so much to prevent the head dive and still be able to use some of the brakes in the rear (as we all know a tire that has no downforce means it has less grip, so we all can toss out the theory of 'brake-bias' working the way it should IF the car was level, and of course it doesnt level out). I know Ted understands this notion between the difference of brake bias vs. downforce applications. As we all are learning, it's important to know the differences and knowing exactly what kind of setup you need to make the car perform the way you want it to perform. Not every setup we see on the boards fits everyone's needs or better yet, want. I am sure if Ted drove my car (or anyone else), 50% will hate it and 50% will love it.. it's just one of those things as drivers and owners that we pick the right mods to perform the way we want our cars to perform. After all, we are buying parts to make up for our own weak points in driving when it comes to the modding world first. Very few of us actually knows what goes on with the car to make the car actually give you all 90% of the performance that you actually want.. some times we just have to look in ourselves for that 10% in skill to bring in out (or maybe even more ). I just like to encourage people to buy what they feel will make their car perform the way they want, and NOT for the sake of having the parts on the car.
