BOXRPWR
Dan Harman sent me a link to a project car nearing completion at his HarmanMotive shop. Thought it would be interesting to post here because a LegacyGT intake manifold (you know, the black plastic piece) solved a major problem. The custom-plumbed Perrin FMIC required a rotated air intake to fit the blow-through MAF. So they tried the stock red STI manifold but since the throttle-body mounts right in the center of it, the alternator interferred with the plumbing route. Dan's familarity with the Legacy (partly due to me ) lead to a novel solution using the LGT plastic intake manifold. The offset location for the tb-mount made it ideal. Here are some walk-through photos to enjoy. 2005 STI Perrin GT30R Kit (.63 housing for fast spool) Perrin FMIC Custom IC Outlet Piping w/ Blow Through MAF Harman ProTuned AP TurboXS DTEC Boost Controller and KnockLight Tons of other supporting stuff and the Legacy TGVs from Shaggy (Dan says they are different from the STI) http://www.harmanmotive.com/forums/Transier/IMG-1486.jpg http://www.harmanmotive.com/forums/Transier/IMG-1496.jpg http://www.harmanmotive.com/forums/Transier/IMG-1497.jpg http://www.harmanmotive.com/forums/Transier/IMG-1516.jpg http://www.harmanmotive.com/forums/Transier/IMG-1553.jpg http://www.harmanmotive.com/forums/Transier/IMG-1554.jpg http://www.harmanmotive.com/forums/Transier/IMG-1555.jpg http://www.harmanmotive.com/forums/Transier/IMG-1556.jpg http://www.harmanmotive.com/forums/Transier/IMG-1558.jpg
wcbjr
Ingenious. Keep that charge pipe away from the turbo, nice! I forgot what I was supposed to remember.
sumfoo1
now tell those guys to make one for the LGT!!!!... they friggin owe us. i love that fmic!!!
wcbjr
Where's the MAF going to go? I don't see it anywhere. I forgot what I was supposed to remember.
PeterJMC
Other than flipping the intake around, what else is involved? Custom brackets, extending vacuum lines?
BOXRPWR
Hey, just realized that after HarmanMotive figures all this out on this STI, then they have a good idea what to do with a Legacy that wants to put on a big-ass turbo with a rotated setup. They can just flip the LGT intake manifold and reroute all the connectors like their going to have to here. They will already have a good start for the custom FMIC plumbing. I realize the Legacy will be different, but its a good starting point. Not that I can think of anybody with a Legacy that might be thinking of doing such a thing down the road....cough, cough. jsalicru
Hey that's my friend's car! He's pretty happy about it. The MAF will go on the pipe coming off the throttle body... it will be placed in the back or underneath it so that it looks clean. K, there's a REAL plus for you in this case... You ALREADY did your braided fuel lines... you would only need a braided powersteering line and some re-routing of a few things to get this done. HINT HINT "some say, his arms are made of coiled adamantium fibers. And that he tops his cereal with nuts and bolts. All we know is, he's called the Jose." wcbjr
Put the MAF a couple bends away from the intake manifold. I forgot what I was supposed to remember.

Harman Motive
okay then......gotta spare GT30R sitting around???? is that puppy internally wastegated? love those AN-fitting fuel lines....looks alot like mine! except, are those blackened mesh? It's externally gated. We're using the Perrin kit. New Uppipe, Downpipe, etc. The lines are Earl's FlexLite350 which are nylon braided instead of stainless. It's way more flexible and won't scratch up the manifold. Regards, Dan
jsalicru
BTW K, externally gated, but routed back to the exhaust... so no noise. "some say, his arms are made of coiled adamantium fibers. BOXRPWR
I'm guessing "less" noise versus "no" noise.
jsalicru
I'm guessing "less" noise versus "no" noise. not really, external wastegate gives you similar noise levels compared to a internal. I really don't think the difference would be huge. The noise with an external gate is there because its basically running an open exhaust. "some say, his arms are made of coiled adamantium fibers.
