Boulderguy
How about option three - 4 inputs, 4 outs, front out to front & rear amps together (then set levels for fading) and rear out to sub amp. Then your fader becomes bass level control.
wcbjr
I kinda like that idea. Saves $40 on that contoller. I forgot what I was supposed to remember.

mwiener2
If it can catch fire routed under the car it can catch fire inside of the car. but cables inside don't get cut as often as cables exposed to the elements outside and under the car. Then your fader becomes bass level control. this is what I did. I get a real sub volume control and then the JL RBC-1 gives me control over 18dB of boost which I can set the Q and freq on. FTW = for the win.
PGT
but cables inside don't get cut as often as cables exposed to the elements outside and under the car. Dude. As an HVAC person you should know about flexible conduit. The smooth plastic coated kind? /controversy. Please.
mwiener2
so you're gonna take a 1/0 cable, sheath it in plastic, and run it through what gaping hole? My Mods List (Updated 8/22/17) 2005 Outback FMT Running on Electrons
Boulderguy
The spare tire well has several nice knockouts already. The frame rail would protect it from the engine bay to past the rear seat.

Just use it for the stretch directly underneath the car. http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=69855-1267-FO7500025M&lpage=none This one seems to be half the price and would perform the same function. PGT
so you're gonna take a 1/0 cable, sheath it in plastic, and run it through what gaping hole? seriously? You have no idea? And you do HVAC? This is all a sensless debate - there's room inside the car to do it.
mwiener2
yeah, plenty of room inside, no reason to do it outside anyways My Mods List (Updated 8/22/17) 2005 Outback FMT Running on Electrons
