GearJamr
Looking at getting a dashcam, cause the road insanity is growing daily. I would like to also have rear view as well. What do you recommend and why? Thanks!
BoozeRS05
Quite interested in this topic as well. I’ve been on the hunt for a good option since some lady ran into my Forester and tried to blame it on me last November. I just found a VAVA dash cam that’s BNIB on my local FB marketplace for $100 and it seems like a great unit. GearJamr
I've been looking at Thinkware cameras. 150 degree front viewing angle, 160 on the rear on one or two models. My wife had an accident 6 years ago or so and the cop basically did not assign fault (she was clipped by someone not stopping at a 4-way stop) and insurance didn't want to fight it out since we had accident forgiveness. Insurance suggested a dashcam. Unfortunately simple observation by a cop isn't enough anymore. And I've been watching a lot of dashcam videos on YT lately which has spurred me to action. tysparks81
I picked up a BNIB blackvue 770 for a very good price a few months ago from a guy on another forum. Came with a front & rear camera, he only opened it and decided he wanted something that was easier to install and integrated nicer into his new 2023 truck. Installation was very easy as I am running the power for it from the cigarette lighter in the wife's forester. But also came with a hardwire kit as well (Which I will probably use to hardwire the camera into the legacy, and just move the front camera to whichever vehicle we are driving, just means that I will need to pick up a second rear view camera so there is one in each vehicle). Installation really was a breeze and the front was installed in less than 15mins, I probably spent more time setting up the account and playing with the settings. Although it is a bit pricier than some alternatives out there, it will save video directly to an SDcard or can be downloaded to my phone through the app. Can also upload automatically when connected to wifi, and has a one touch button/sensor to start/stop recording while driving. I like that it has an intelligent parking mode that detects impacts & motion. Also that it has built in GPS & wifi which I'm hoping I can use to setup an extra layer of security on my car if it is ever stolen, towed or moved. 1 1 #LGTSTi is still cheaper and nicer then an equal year wrxsti Follow my 2007 Spec B. GearJamr
I was also checking out blackvue on the weekend. I'm trying to avoid anything made in china. Blackvue and thinkware are both from south korea.
