GrayLeggy
Hey everyone. I'm new here and I have a problem: I got a Grimmspeed license plate relocation kit for my 2010 Legacy (Grimmspeed say it fits) and the rod thing that you put in the tow hook hole doesn't want to thread. Does anyone else have experience with the kit on a 5th gen? Possible fixes?
Humble Rumble
Make sure you got the correct kit. We use the exact same kit the BRZ uses. Other than that, if you've never had anything in your towhook threads, they're probably just corroded/gummed up and need to be cleaned, or tapped out slightly. 1 1 2012 Legacy 3.6R Build Thread 5th Gen Legacy BM/BR Body Kit Compendium Thread
Scubaboo
Beem mildly interested in those too. If you have your factory tow hook, maybe compare the diameter and threads and see if the factory hook threads on?
Humble Rumble
Also yes, I have had that kit on my car for 5+ years or so. I had to replace it once because the front bolt seized from corrosion. Gotta love the salt belt. 1 2012 Legacy 3.6R Build Thread 5th Gen Legacy BM/BR Body Kit Compendium Thread

Didn't measure with an actual ruler but judging by visual inspection the threads are the same diameter. It seems that the "neck" where the bolt widens is too close to the threads, not allowing them to reach the threaded part of the hole.
GrayLeggy
Also judging by Subaru's parts website here the same exact towhook fits 4th and 5th gen Legacies. Time to try out Grimmspeed's version for the 4th gen I guess? Doesn't look like it has the same "neck" thing that doesn't allow it to screw in.
Scubaboo
Yeah that would do it OP. Maybe it was changed from Humble's version.
