2005 Tuned by STI

Recommended Posts

Just picked up from Canadian Customs (who somehow lost the car for 2 hours...long story). 2005 Subaru Legacy 2.0GT Spec.B Tuned by STI. Car has 140,000km.

Somehow the underbody has 0 rust, everything looks factory brand new. Body is 9/10. Interior is 8/10, has some wear on drivers seat and steering wheel, and a couple very small cracks on the dash.

So far has been a great car to drive, no issues, absolutely no leaks which was surprising. Only thing left to do is wire up some DRLs, and figure out why the horn doesn't work so i can get in inspected and registered.

Yes, the car is RHD. Imported from Japan. Bought it in December, landed on Feb 3rd, cleared customs on the 8th.

As for the box where the air pump is honestly I'm not sure, this is the first Legacy I have owned, first Subaru actually. Where would the air pump normally be located?

Near the yellow oil fill cap, two red wires with corrugated shielding on them. They almost look like plug wires and the 2 & 4 coils.....

Cool car for sure. Digging the STI bits and the deck spoiler.

Good eye! I’m pretty convinced they are coils. More pics of that please

Right. And not to derale further here but still have to remove the battery, tray and airbox for access. But to save those connectors would be big and also keeping the coils away from total engine heat would certainly aid in their life expectancy.

So markings on the wires say NOLOGY, HotWire, Made in USA, SUN. They have a wrap around them that is grounded to the heads as well.

While inspecting I have also found that besides the HKS suction pipe it also has an HKS catted downpipe installed.

So here is the part number on the coil. Looks like the wiring was just re-routed to where the remote coils are. Connectors appear to be the same ones that would have been installed on the COP coils.
Those look like stock ignition coils, just mounted in a bracket.. very interesting.. [emoji848][emoji848]

Yeah I looked up the part number and it appears to be to OE coils. Looks like someone removed the boots and chacked the mounting bracket and added wires.
"Chacked" what is this??? Also went on to Nology website, I have a feeling they are a "build" your own set...

For the horn, you can test the physical horns, they just need power, if they work, then its probably the steering wheel clockspring. There are two horns so the likely hood of both of them failing makes me think its the clocks spring.... could be a fuse as well. But Clockspring!

Horn was quick and easy. Relay was getting no ground control signal. Popped of the airbag and found the connector unplugged. Connected and tested and the relay was getting signal but contacts not closing. Popped in a new relay and hors and good to go. Should have mentioned I am a licensed mechanic, although not the most knowledgeable in JDM imports. Luckily this shares almost everything with the domestic version.
