Iltl32
2013 Legacy base model. Right now I only have 1 key and so I want to get another. I have read instructions on how to program a new key fob, but how about an actual key? Is that an option? I don't have $300 to pay the dealer right now. Was hoping to buy a key online, have a locksmith cut it, and program it myself like I've been able to do with other cars. Any ideas? Thanks! Plastixx
No, you need either a key programming device or a diagnostic device capable of key programming. Check with your local locksmiths. If you find one with the capability, they might do it cheaper than the dealer.
NVAKeith
Note that the key is comprised of three parts: the mechanical key with housing, the lock/unlock transmitter with buttons, and the immobilizer chip. If you are shopping for a second key online make sure you get all three parts. The $15 eBay keys likely don’t include all three.
FLlegacy
I only paid $65 to program my keys at my local dealer, have you verified the price with them it sounds exaggerated. If that is the price for the key and programming that's a different story. I purchased my key precut by an online subaru dealer, I don't know if they still do that, but an automotive locksmith should have the capability to at least cut the keys.
