2012 Legacy H6
Someone keyed my car, scratching my fuel door in the process. Therefore I am trying to remove the fuel door on my Legacy. There are two metal tab-like pieces that hold it in place with a hole in the middle, however I don't see anything with the clear purpose of removing them. Why does this have to be so difficult? Other cars have regular 10mm bolts. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
DrD123
They are plastic pop rivets, unfortunately. (part no. 905920045)
2012 Legacy H6
They are plastic pop rivets, unfortunately. (part no. 905920045) Are you sure? Mine are scraping like it's metal when I try to pry them open. How do you remove them?
DrD123
With a rivet, best way to remove is to drill through the center (the outer part is plastic, but the expander is aluminum it looks like) - if you try to yank the rivet out you will deform the hole it goes through. Here's a picture of the part (uninstalled - when installed the aluminum tang will snap off at the front of the rivet, and the ball end will expand the rivet behind the hole)
Keyan
the only way to remove a rivet is to drill out the rivet.
