Jags
Hello all, I have a quick question about the angle steps, I read that you have to loosen the bolts 180 degrees, is a angle torque wrench able to tell you when it has loosened 180 or no?
blackobxt
A torque angle gauge that looks like a small extension with an analogue gauge will work and is at about every auto parts store for $12 will do it. I’ve used a snap on digital torque wrench with a torque angle setting that we tested with an actual gauge and it was super accurate but spendy at about $600. I noticed a digital torque wrench at harbor freight the other day that if I remember correctly claimed to do torque angle but I didn’t even look at he price. Max Capacity
you do know that 180 degrees is half a circle...why would you need something to tell you that. When I used to take heads off Honda engines I did them in 1/4 turns (90 degrees) at a time until the pressure/tension was off. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. blackobxt
Because not all engine bays allow room for even 90° rotation
dgoodhue
Because not all engine bays allow room for even 90° rotation Are you really reinstalling the heads with the engine installed?
blackobxt
I’ve done tons of headgasket jobs in tons of different cars with the motor in. No on subarus, always pulled the motors. Should have specified that
08SpecB_DE
I use a Snap-on angle torque wrench and I've noticed once the bolt loosens, the angle reading stops. I know I've gone a full 180 but the wrench will read 135 or something like that.
