Seaking2000
Hi all, my 2006 Subaru Legacy Limited w/Automatic Transmission has been leaking rear diff fluid and has a whining noise while coasting, and a grinding noise while going highway speeds. Now I'm getting some vibration and shudders in stop and go traffic... I'm worried that I might have to replace my rear diff at some point, but I'm having trouble determining exactly what ratio will fit my Legacy Limited. I found this part number (38312AA022) on the Subaru parts website and it's been discontinued, but I couldn't figure out the size or ratio, or if other rear diffs would fit my car. Any help on this subject would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

Nonamedude
From what I've gathered from discussion on the outback forums, for non turbos, some have limited slip and some don't. Gear ratios should be the same between and in the FSM. But best bet is to probably check the rear diff page and the gearing page in the FSM and then you'll need to crawl under the car for the markings on the differential to be sure of what you have. That said they all for the most part fit. You just might have some slightly different performance and whatnot.
