A New Recall on Airbag Inflators

Recommended Posts

I just had my glovebox out and dash side panel off while doing some audio install stuff on my car and I can't see how it's remotely possible to replace the inflator with the dash still on. You can't even see the airbag let alone get to it. Unless there's something I'm missing because I tried to figure out how they might do it.

I've got an appointment at my local dealer on Friday... the 13th. Good thing I'm not superstitious! I've been putting it off for over a month now, ready to get it taken care of.

They didn't cause any issues doing it the first time, so I'm hopeful they can do it again just as well.

Had the recall done Friday by Wilsonville Subaru. Took them about 4 hours, maybe a little less. However, after the recall, both key fobs paired to my car stopped working. Took it in the next morning and I guess the immobilizer needed to be reset. Might be something to look out for if you take yours in.

Also, the whole service staff was freaking out over my wagon, which was kinda cool. Mostly goes ignored at Cars and Coffee but the Subaru guys know how rare these things are!

Glad to hear yours went [mostly] painlessly; thanks for the heads up on the key fobs. Dropped my car off this morning, so fingers crossed everything goes smoothly.

It's always fun when the wagon attracts attention! During one of my last trips to the dealership, everyone was checking out mine, and I probably had 8 people, both customers and employees, ask me if I wanted to sell it.

[update:] Picked up my car this afternoon. No issues, no damaged dash panels. I feel relieved! The service rep liked my car, we ended up chatting out in the parking lot for quite a bit, nice guy. I've said it before, but to anyone in the Atlanta area, I most certainly recommend Subaru of Kennesaw.

i'm from south texas and i got a call from subaru couple days ago. on the phone the lady asked me which dealer i want to go, it will take only 2hrs. i said my car is still "in the air" in my garage. then she still wanted to schedule me to one of dealers where nearby my home. i said i really don't know when i could get it back on the road, i'm still waiting for my supervisor to approve my vacation (to fix my car) ...

Getting this done this weekend. Luckily I got in under the wire on a replacement dash so I'm getting that installed at the same time along with 3 new blend door actuators. Hopefully they don't bork up other things whole they're in there.

My whip is gonna feel brand new and as a bonus I finally take my family for a ride in it without the fear of killing them.

Calling SOA tomorrow. Had mine completed on Monday and of course the tech had to munch the dash taking the cubby out. Realized after leaving the ashtray would not latch closed, they fixed that while misaligning the JDM Air Control mod. Service manager said they will repair the vinyl with an outside interior specialist, no spankyou....I'd rather have them replace the dash and while they are doing it I'll pay for the air vent actuators. Will never go to this dealership again, the techs just don't care. I've had it with these goofs.

I work with a few Subaru techs and they always joke that every recall would induce a new rattle. Keep in mind that our cars require the dash to be taken apart to replace a cabin filter. It's inevitable. My glovebox doesn't latch always when you shut it. It's part of life for a car that's had the interior taken apart four times due to Takata's negligence. The tech probably did try to put it back together in a fashion that would leave it in the best shape it could be.

I wish the tech who originally did mine had the same care for my car. My dash was pristine minus the stickiness which they ended up replacing for me later down the road. I have a cracked vent, missing bolts/screws for the nav unit and cluster, center console never got out back in properly, etc.
