Falcor
What is the difference in the following 2 gear oils? Motul Motylgear 75W90 Motul Gear 300 75W90 The only difference I see is the Gear 300 is fully synthetic and cost about $10 more a bottle. Motylgear is semi-synthetic. Is there that much of a noticeable difference?
Falcor
I ended up going with the Gear 300. Didn't want to keep waiting since I saw a good deal on Ebay for $75 for 4qts. I have a feeling that's what most here would go with.
creep_nu
quick research shows motylgear is semi-synthetic while the gear300 is full synthetic. looks like the additive package in the motylgear might be a little better for older gearboxes, more stuff to help the syncros out, but otherwise not a whole load of difference aside from the semi-vs-full-synthetic thing. if you got a good deal on the 300 then you got a good deal
SchwarzeEwigkt
I asked the same question when I changed the oil in the gearbox in my old Audi. I ended up going with Gear 300 myself and was very happy with it. Turned a gearbox that wouldn’t shift into second in the cold into one that worked kind of okay in the cold.
