BigTodd
Can someone help me identify this small filter that is in my valve control assembly. The screen on the filter is broken and I need a replacement. I found this while getting my heads ready to go to the machine shop for resurfacing. It's the tiny black and silver mesh filter that fits down into the oil passage of the control housing. Whats it called and does anyone have a part number? I think it a smaller version of the bango filter in a turbo model, but mines is a non turbo with VVTI. See links or pics below
apexi
I'm thinking maybe you have to get the ocv holder to get that filter.. I'm not seeing it in parts diagrams or in the factory service manual. https://parts.subaru.com/a/Subaru_2009_Legacy-25L-4AT-4WD-Limited/_54102_6023307/CYLINDER-HEAD-SYSTEM-06MY-/B13-006-07.html oil control valve holders 10917*A - 10917AA040 https://parts.subaru.com/p/Subaru_2009_Legacy-25L-4AT-4WD-Limited/HOLDER-ASSEMBLY-OIL-CONTROL-VALVE--------RH/49223100/10917AA040.html 10917*B - 10917AA050 https://parts.subaru.com/p/Subaru_2009_Legacy-25L-4AT-4WD-Limited/HOLDER-ASSEMBLY-OIL-CONTROL-VALVE--------LH/49223101/10917AA050.html
BigTodd
I hope not, i just pulled out the other head filter and it's screen is also broken open. I'm wondering how common this might be. I'm also wondering how critical this filter is being that my car ran fine other than the oil leaks caused by the head gasket.
Max Capacity
I wonder if that's where Subaru moved the "banjo bolt filter" too. On 05-06's we remove those filters. Yep, just checked my desk drawer here at work, one of those filters is still in the top drawer on the right side, where I put it back in 2011. BigTodd
The issue with this tiny oil screen is the mesh is ripped open. Its ripped from the inside outward. I'm debating if I need to have it in there at all...
DaveWaters
On the turbo cars we remove the screens but ours are a different set up (inside a banjo bolt) as mentioned above. I’d think its fine to remove but....ymmv The fact that they are torn makes me wonder if someone was already in there and tried picking them out to inspect them and damaged them in the process.
