Leggyobw97
Is that this exhaust? https://www.edoperformance.com/products/zero-sports-world-league-catback-exhaust-for-2002-2007-subaru-impreza-sti-wrx The photos look similar. I'm looking to do the exhaust on my wagon too, and wondering what my options are. Is there some cross-compatibility with newer Subarus of other models? He has a few more jdm 2nd gen specific mufflers available. The thing is that the JDM BG/BK Legacy had the EJ20, so you're saying any exhaust for those will fit the USDM EJ25D? I'm not on Facebook, but I've seen some Japanese and Australian websites that sell exhaust systems for the JDM EJ20 and I'm wondering if it'll fit my wagon with the EJ25D. Thor294
you think theyd be the same from the cat/back since its the same car lol
Leggyobw97
you think theyd be the same from the cat/back since its the same car lol I thought maybe the 2.5 would use a larger diameter exhaust tubing? Maybe not? If they're the same that's awesome, I want to do the exhaust on my wagon too. Staying tuned to see if it's a direct bolt-on or if it requires custom fabrication. Leggyobw97
meant to hit edit but hit quote... oops. Was going to ask if cars in Japan even had catalytic converters in the 90s. I know they don't have EGR. All different emissions standards compared to North America. There must be some differences in the exhaust Edited February 7, 2019 by Leggyobw97
dirtcrazy
I thought maybe the 2.5 would use a larger diameter exhaust tubing? If we're talking non-turbo, then yes. The 2.0 would use a smaller diameter pipe. However, if the 2.0 is turbocharged, then it will have a larger diameter pipe: 2.5" from the cat back, most likely. Whereas our N/A EJ25s have just under 2" cat back.
Brighton96
I want to say the stock size for 2.2L is 1.75in and 2.5L is 2.0in. and I think the 2.5L turbo is either 2.5in or 2.75in. Everything bolts up the same though, a buddy of mine put a turbo 3in cat back from a turbo Legacy on his NA Legacy and everything fit the same but his exhaust sounds oversized, it is too large and sounds airy if that makes sense. I wouldn't do anything larger then 2.5in for an NA 2.5L and 2.25in for a 2.2L
Leggyobw97
Just crawled under my 97 2.5L OBW with a caliper and my stock exhaust is 49mm, or roughly 1.92" OD. Adding for the record.
Infosecdad
The stock exhaust on my ‘01 Impreza 2.5 RS was 1.75” ID. That matches up to what you measured.

Leggyobw97
Looks good! How is the vinyl decal to pull off? Not too bad or a PITA? I'm gonna have to do mine too at some point. Off to the junkyard now to look for the wood bezels for my dash!
SLW-SVT
The passenger side was a pain to get off with a heat gun and my fingers. Way easier once i got the eraser wheel for the driver side.
SLW-SVT
I dropped the car off for paint on Wednesday! Here are some pics of taking everything apart. I also dropped my wheels off at a shop for restoration and got them back. http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu48/eocullins/1998%20Outback/piUcM8FYR1CnasvnFPwgPw.jpg http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu48/eocullins/1998%20Outback/bY9jGiGhTbKa3X9ONsMi4Q.jpg http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu48/eocullins/1998%20Outback/ONXSDWAGQoaaLc0UaOCZRA.jpg http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu48/eocullins/1998%20Outback/iaccICK4TqaTwBfsC2WRA.jpg http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu48/eocullins/1998%20Outback/0k36hulSHyEjezwuKCPQ.jpg http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu48/eocullins/1998%20Outback/WbSzKlmeQOmJ5wY0wah9A.jpg Before: http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu48/eocullins/1998%20Outback/C5nKeB7SJCRQyDuRlNHRw.jpg After: http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu48/eocullins/1998%20Outback/IMG_1969.jpg http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu48/eocullins/1998%20Outback/68189710-E3EB-4D13-BB78-9414444CC56F.jpg
SLW-SVT
I wasn't able to find a decent walkthrough on mounting usdm/jdm side skirts so here's what i did. 1. Place tape over the top of the skirt at every side mounting point and use a sharpie to draw a line exactly where it will go. 2. Use C-Clamps to hold the skirt at the pinch weld and tape the top to the door jams 3. Push up on the skirt and continue the line drawn on the tape onto the car and outline the edge of the skirt around each vertical line. 4. Outline the lower mounting holes to be drilled and tapped. (stock mounting hardware for the bottom utilizes a square opening which i have no way to make) 5. Remove skirt and measure down 25mm from each vertical line and drill a hole. Ill update this later with the drill bit i used. 6. Drill holes in the middle of each of the lower mounting points. You could use some plastic fasteners as well. 7. I tapped them all with an 8mm tap and got all new stainless bolts and washers. http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu48/eocullins/1998%20Outback/9IQTqIIEREGoMhfSLmBbIw.jpg http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu48/eocullins/1998%20Outback/LeC0SbYQhCC4ue0j1xmg.jpg http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu48/eocullins/1998%20Outback/U04E9fVcQ0uSF0llMIXfAg.jpg http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu48/eocullins/1998%20Outback/8643DFB8-98C8-413D-90A4-3E04333C5D19.jpg

SLW-SVT
Thanks! Well the car is still in paint until next week but i got my JDM projectors retrofitted with some FXR 3.0s. Not sure how parallel the cutoff will be from the ground but there really wasnt much wiggle room in the mounting brackets. This is the mounting bracket https://custom-brackets-designs.myshopify.com/products/copy-of-1995-1999-subaru-legacy-jdm-fx-r-3-0-retrofit-c-bracket-1 http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu48/eocullins/1998%20Outback/qgef3QzbQWkSM4YCP69Q.jpg I used some nuts and washers to space out the projector to clear the plastic clips for the adjustment screws. http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu48/eocullins/1998%20Outback/v1NRyF3UQcyIPZUO5SlDQ.jpg Had to trim here to clear the adjustment screws http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu48/eocullins/1998%20Outback/W3FsOSNBSKmmalJb1Gr3Ag.jpg http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu48/eocullins/1998%20Outback/jBaz8SdTR1qfKftowgbFKg.jpg Installed http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu48/eocullins/1998%20Outback/IMG_1987.jpg Finished! looks a lot better without the orange bulb in the corners. I'm going to take these to the place that did my wheels for them to professionally restore them and spray PPG clear coat for headlights. http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu48/eocullins/1998%20Outback/2vVqoBrSTiCdqyNnWgfw.jpg Got all new clips and gaskets for the grille, backup camera that will be installed in the wiper delete cap, new hatch striking plates and a ceramic coating kit for the wheels. http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu48/eocullins/1998%20Outback/5x74kZECSta3eqpxUaO4A.jpg I got matching 3900K lights for the corner and turn assist in the JDM fog lights. Also matching 5k led for the projector in the fogs. I don't care about output on these, i just need them to match the 5500k HIDs in the headlights. http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu48/eocullins/1998%20Outback/VQM7OXldSzG12Ybr5ylEew.jpg http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu48/eocullins/1998%20Outback/h1MwFGOIQcyitfEbrUo3w.jpg Chargespeed convex mirror overlays! SLW-SVT
Thanks guys! I'm having the painter redo the car...actually after seeing it again, he said he wanted to make it right. He has it back again but this time i took off the windshield trim so that he could paint underneath since he didn't do that to begin with. I ordered new side and upper molding and will be getting a new windshield as well. http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu48/eocullins/1998%20Outback/VkM9P4A5SAau2PAzwIuhqw.jpg I also got some JDM door handles today! They are the wrong shade so I will be looking for darker ones to match better. http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu48/eocullins/1998%20Outback/fullsizeoutput_2f80.jpeg
