My First Subaru

Hi everyone,

I just acquired my first Subaru after my trusty '97.5 Explorer V8 I paid $1k for 8 years ago just died a month ago. I just got an '05 Legacy 2.5i Limited with 225k miles and a rebuilt tranny. I have already done a few things myself since purchase.

 

To preface this inquiry I live in an apartment complex that forbids any mechanical work involving fluids (Oil changes, coolant, ETC.). Before I moved in here 3 years ago I guess someone had messed up and had an oil spill in a storm drain that caused EPA issues. So they just banned it all out. I can do other things myself such as:

 

*I changed Spark Plugs (NGK (5463) FR5AP-11 Laser Platinum).

*Changed both Alternator + AC Belts (Bondo Brand).

*Oil change and filter at my local Lithia Subaru dealer.

*Cleaned the MAF Sensor, it was super gunked up.

*Air intake filter.

*Cabin Filter (that was fun to figure out!).

 

Next is:

*Timing Belt most definitely.

*Suspension

*Brakes and Pads and flush of system.

*Coolant system cleaning (its DARK green when I got it)

 

What I need to know:

*What are the biggest issues with this car?

*What are the easiest way to prevent the most common issues?

*My foglights don't work:

-Fuse is 100% functioning, swapped and replaced.

-Dash Indicator for Fogs comes on when I use switch.

-Relay does click when I turn on.

-Both bulbs are brand new, replaced myself.

Check the head gaskets / valve gaskets at that mileage it could be an issue.

 

Maybe get some steel braided brake lines and a grimmspeed master cylinder brace

Any idea's for my original post's inquiry about the foglights?

You should check to see if you're getting power at the plug for the fog lights. It sounds like you have a potential wiring issue
