Brightons 3rd Gen Build Thread

I don't think a normal person really wants a 20 year old subaru with 200K on it. But who knows. maybe I'll buy it haha

What liar told you that you were normal?

Update

I rolled it out into the driveway so that the fresh burning paint wouldn't stink up the garage too much and in the meantime I washed, cleaner wax and polished the paint. I plan to do a wax and a sealer later, but I just ran out of daylight.

Short Update

I have been doing break-in and double checking on stuff. So far so good, no leaks (aside from an A/C oring leaking) and it hasn't overheated or done anything weird. I'm pretty sure it needs a trans mount because it drops hard into gear from park into any gear. Also I still need to drive it and double check all of the bolts again. But over the last couple nights I've been compounding, polishing and waxing the entire car in order to get the for sale photos and I am pretty happy with how it turned out.

Looks great!

Check the bushings at the rear of the differential mount.

When they go you will get the clunking when you shift into gear.

Thanks for the info, I'll take a look at them when I do my bolt torque inspection.

Small Update

Sorry no pictures this time, only a non interesting story.

So far I've put about 400 miles on the car and a tank of 91 through the car and last weekend I put it up on ramps to inspect all the bolts to make sure nothing had come loose and also to inspect everything else. I found a few discoveries and subsequent repairs, the one outer tie rod was blown out so that got replaced and the alignment was done. I also found that the trans mount was toast so I ordered that and will swap it eventually.

Other than that, the only leak so far was slow seeping around the oil drain plug, so that got replaced too, at the cost of dumping at least a quart of fresh oil on the ground.
