dirtjumper787
Hey guys, semi new to this site but I recently purchased a "new" car. Its a 2006 Outback XT with flawless OBP paint annnnnd a 5EAT. This is my 6th Subaru in the past 5 years, I originally had a 1998 Legacy Brighton that was passed down from my father, Then I sold that and bought a 2004 WRX wagon. The WRX got totaled from a roll over on a gravel road so I bought a 2004 WRX shell and literally swapped every part over to it in my back yard. In the midst of all that I bought a 2009 Outback which my dad has taken over driving, and I also bought a 1996 outback with the ej22 in it. Finally sold my wrx after getting the impulse to buy something new and the Outback came along and I picked it up. Havent done much to it, other than a turbo inlet (since the stock one ripped like always) and some whiteline sways. Waiting to be installed is a grimmspeed catless up pipe and will be picking up covertrussians divorced downpipe once he gets it taken off. I recently put some 2014 STI wheels with 1in adapter/spacers on. Here is how the car sits as of now.

dirtjumper787
Why Hello there! What are you lowered on? The wheels work nicely! I spy Legacy wagon roof racks! Welcome to the land of 5eat! Not 100% sure what Im sitting on as they came with the car. Previous owner said they were Spec B bilsteins.... but I can tell you that they aren't just by looking at them. I want to say they're just stock legacy suspension. I put a 1in saggy but spacer in for now. The car sat slammed from the previous previous owner, who cut all the bumpstops out and did all that hellaflush shit to it lol heres a pic of it in its slammed form. covertrussian
Welcome! Nice to have a local forum member . I need to look at your shocks, they might spec B's just painted black. I do think they ride horrible compared to my stock LGT suspension! 05 LGT 16G 14psi 290whp/30mpg (SOLD) 12 OBP Stock 130whp/27mpg@87 Oct 00 G20t GT28r 10psi 250whp/36mpg 22 Ascent STOCK
Rhitter
Oh, you have SublimeJoe's old Outback, He was one of the Original "slammed" Outbacks on this site. Here is his old build thread so you can see all that was done. I think the whole car was repainted after an accident, so you lucked out http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/outback-xt-164214.html?t=164214 @Covert, according to his for sale ad they are Spec.B Bilsteins http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/va-2006-subaru-outback-xt-limited-215703.html?t=215703 My OBXT build

dirtjumper787
Well previous owners must've forgot or purposefully forgot to change the cabin air filter. Looks like there was a mouse home in there at one point. Now blower works 100x better and doesn't have a funky smell anymore
dirtjumper787
Pulled the turbo killer out, and I must say it was pretty clogged. I don't understand what Subaru was thinking with these. I know they were due at the 60k mile service but with most people that buy a Subaru seem to run them into the ground rather than take care of them. But anyway its out and is in the trash
covertrussian
That cabin filter looks like it's an original one, disgusting. As for turbo banjo filter, that's not the worst I've seen.... still good to have it out. 05 LGT 16G 14psi 290whp/30mpg (SOLD) 12 OBP Stock 130whp/27mpg@87 Oct 00 G20t GT28r 10psi 250whp/36mpg 22 Ascent STOCK
dirtjumper787
My stock turbo inlet had a rip in it from where the clamp tightens down into the cool side of the turbo, So found another OEM from @covertrussian locally and went to put that one on and it ripped as well. Went to rallysportdirect, Typed in my 2006 OBXT and found and got the mishimoto inlet that "fits my 2006 outback xt" and overnighted it since I needed my car. Link to said Mishimoto inlet: https://www.rallysportdirect.com/part/turbo-inlet-hoses-and-pipes/mis-mmhose-sub-08ihrd-mishimoto-induction-hose-kit-red Well it gets here and I notice the bpv/recirc tube is made for 08-09. I call rallysportdirect and they say that is the correct one, and I wasn't going to waste my time arguing. So.... I went and looked at everything and how in the world I would get this to fit. Pulled off the bracket that holds the boost control solenoid, the map sensor, and the purge control solenoid. Got the recirculation hose in and clamped down, surprisingly not too hard after moving all the other junk. I had been fighting the inlet in the tiny crevice for hours. The mishimoto is a bit oversized... would not recommend unless you have to pull the manifold off for some reason. Problem now is the bracket that hold all the solenoids now does not fit, So I left the BCS and the MAP sensor on the bracket and cut off the overhang for the Purge control solenoid. I then tucked the purge solenoid into the crevice where it originally sat and threw a ziptie around the vac lines. Sits perfectly in there without the bracket and has not moved. Then I just bolted everything in as normal. So yeah, about 3 days of time tied up into something that should've taken a couple hours because of sites saying a part should fit. But anyway... Works like a charm now with the adjustments I did.
covertrussian
Yeah thats pretty annoying (and I wasn't even there to help!), I would almost say your better off with WRX/STI inlet that has top fittings, but at least BOV one lines up. 05 LGT 16G 14psi 290whp/30mpg (SOLD) 12 OBP Stock 130whp/27mpg@87 Oct 00 G20t GT28r 10psi 250whp/36mpg 22 Ascent STOCK
dirtjumper787
Weekend consisted of heating, pb blastering and breaker barring... NoVA rust had certainly set in on this car. With @covertrussians help, I installed (his previously owned) Tomei Equal length header, Tomei up pipe, stromung 2.5in divorced shorty downpipe, and no name mid pipe that I knocked the cat out of. Still need to do some tuning, just waiting on the front o2 to come in since Nova rust also got a hold of that and made it impossible to get out of the old header. The mid pipe did need some "modification" to fit with the 5eat, but a hammer did the trick and allowed just enough clearance around the rear case bolt. Flow is not "too" harmed. I installed the RalliTek "hard" insert as well while I was there. Everything so far I am pleased with.
covertrussian
That 5AT is huge, no wonder no real down pipe can fit around it. 05 LGT 16G 14psi 290whp/30mpg (SOLD) 12 OBP Stock 130whp/27mpg@87 Oct 00 G20t GT28r 10psi 250whp/36mpg 22 Ascent STOCK
skibump
Recently picked up an '08 Outback, which didn't blow much air and had a funky smell. dirtjumper787
Well bit the bullet on a downpipe. Found one on eBay for $90 and it was a Megan racing brand. It said in the title it was for 10-14 LGTs, but the picture was of a downpipe for older ej styles. I messaged a few different Ebay Megan distributors and said the pic posted (which looked like a generic stock photo) was indeed the product I would be buying. So, due to their misprint they probably weren’t selling a whole lot of them. Regarding the downpipe, I’ve read a lot on here about how Megan’s are junk and this and that. For $90 I couldn’t resist. I bought it. Came in yesterday and installed it last night. Fitment was 100% perfect and quality is very good. I was amazed. Waiting to see if there’s any power increase over the stromung shorty downpipe I had installed. There will probably be a little bit due to the fact this is a 3in and is not divorced. Pics of the downpipe I attached below and there’s ones of it installed. Check them for yourself. I thought $90 would be too cheap and it would be junk, but surprisingly enough I am very happy. covertrussian
Divorced in theory is a better design, because it keeps wastegate turbulence from interfering with turbine flow. I wouldn't mind testing the difference myself, just don't know if it's worth $100 of curiosity. Where I think this downpipe will help is, not having a big dent (that you had to make haha) in the secondary piece. 05 LGT 16G 14psi 290whp/30mpg (SOLD) 12 OBP Stock 130whp/27mpg@87 Oct 00 G20t GT28r 10psi 250whp/36mpg 22 Ascent STOCK
