abstract_alchemy
I didn't realise I had a pinhole leak in my trans cooler line. I ran my Legacy too low on trans fluid and couldn't shift out of park in a taco bell drive thru. I was able to get it out of park with some help from the guys behind me. I made it to a gas station and immediately put in transmission fluid. It took over a quart. How F#<{3D am I?
Setnev
Fix the leak and refill the fluid. Chances are the transmission is fine. The transmission has clutches that engage by fluid. Coincidentally, the fluid also keeps the clutches from burning up, but it doesn't sound like you drove it very long with it low.
Brighton96
Yeah, only a quart low for a short period would not be good, but it shouldn't be enough to kill the trans.
doublechaz
If it gets low enough to suck air into the pump pickup it might fail to clamp fully on the clutches and it could slip and really wear the clutches. But I think you would have noticed that if that happened. There is some headroom in fluid level. I doubt you did any damage.
