Volta55
so i bought a E-cig because it seemed the cheapest and easiest way:lol: I took out all the plastic intake housing, and plugged the big intake hose with a small paint can. is this the correct hose i was blowing into? ( the hose pointing at the 6 oclock position ) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v486/westy66/TMIC%20install/IM001670-1400.jpg when it was clogged with the paint can, i blew smoke ( very gently ) for about 4 pulls of e-cig smoke, and when i released my thumb off the hose, it blew back at me ( sealed system? ) then for variable reasons, i blew into the system with no pain can in, and the smoke came out of the intake hose. and this is also the state of my MAF....dirty? http://i.imgur.com/D6s2vhp.jpg http://i.imgur.com/t5ndqLv.jpg i am currently at a IAM of .625 cliffnotes: am i doing the smoke test correctly? and should i clean (blast it with carb cleaner) or replace MAF
Th3Franz
why is the hardware missing on your BPV? Yeah you can apply smoke on the vacuum hose going to the BPV. Don't just use carb cleaner to clean the MAF. Buy some non-chlorinated MAF cleaner spray from the auto parts store. -Franz The end of a Legacy http://www.youtube.com/th3franz

MilesA
You can use the vacuum line that goes to the brake booster. Don't use the carb cleaner, it can damage the MAF. There is a MAF cleaner you can buy (alcohol based, no nasty solvents).
Volta55
Okay.. I will try that next If i had the intake hose properly sealed, and i blew smoke in the hose showed in post 1, then when I stopped blowing it; blew back out the smoke, does that mean it's sealed? And does my MAF look dirty? Sorry for the shite grammar lol
MilesA
Sorry, what's the problem you are troubleshooting? You suspect a vacuum leak? If you have a vacuum gauge you can see if you have one or not very easily. Temporarily disconnect vacuum line to brake booster, plug vacuum gauge into it. You should see ~18+ inches Hg at idle. If less, there is a leak somewhere.
serx7
That brown bulb thingie is the intake air temp sensor. The MAF wires (2 of them) are inside the tube. Try not to spray too hard into the tube to avoid damaging the tiny wires. I use several short puffs of MAF cleaner. CRC makes a MAF cleaner but I've read that their electronics cleaner is the same thing and is less expensive.
