roundthirteen
So I have a ticking sound coming from my 08 Spec B's engine (not the normal engine tick I've had the last 6 years). It's odd because I can only really hear it when I'm behind the wheel and the colder it gets the more noticeable it is. The car is running well, pulling hard, not using oil, not smoking, I haven't done a comp check but from the vacuum on the Cobb AP it looks ok, I pulled the timing covers and checked the tensioners and pulleys and they're ok, so there's some trouble shooting. It's consistent with the RPM of the engine, and doesn't get harsher like the sound of a spun bearing. Any ideas? My car's not a sleeper it's a hibernator. http://pure-tuning.com
solidxsnake
Perhaps something related to the valvetrain? Try a stethoscope on the heads and see if it narrows anything down.
zactek
Exhaust leak, classic especially if more pronounced when cold. Hot exhaust hitting the cold air, probably around the turbo/downpipe joint. Also, could be lifters not fully filling up/oil thicker when cold or at start-up.If it sounds like the sound is at the bottom/front of engine, check uppipe and manifolds connections. Zack K.
