Humble Rumble
I've been considering trying to add USB AUX support to my 2012 base model 3.6R. I found part 86257AJ200 on eBay, and I have head unit PE645U1. I have 3.5mm AUX in my armrest already, and this piece would replace that socket. http://www.ebay.com/itm/131611187707?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT What I'm curious about is if there's any additional programming that would be needed to get USB AUX to function with this head unit, or if it's just plug-n-play, and how much is involved in the install? Would it be worth the effort to have the dealeship install it? Any insight would be appreciated. cww516
Looking at the vacation pics for the navigation head unit (which I have, and that has the USB port), there should be a round 8-pin connector in the general vicinity of the backside of that aux input panel thing. Not sure if it'll be in the harness already, but my guess is no. There's a square 12-pin connector at the head unit, and I don't see any indication that there are wires from other places going to that connector. I think the aux input thing was available as a kit, maybe poke around and see if you can find that? Chances are, that'd come with the correct harness, assuming you need one. If nothing else, you can find a couple good pictures of what's in the kit, find part numbers based on that, and build the kit yourself (if it's cheaper that way, that is). I'd say it's not really worth it to have the dealer install it- as long as you're comfortable pulling the surround off the radio (which is more painful on the fingertips than anything else), it should be simple. The side panel on the center console peels off really easily, which gives you access to the back of that aux panel, and with the radio surround off, you can get the other end of the harness up where it needs to be. Probably have to pull the screws holding the radio (pro-tip, have a magnetic pickup tool handy), but that should be about the extent of it. FLlegacy
I will second what cww516 said, it should be plug and play if the harness is there, if its not adding a couple wires for the usb shouldn't be terribly difficult.
bigboy292000
Isn't the Media hub kit needed for Aux / USB? As far as I know (but could be wrong) - it is... comes with a harness and a mounting bracket. PART NUMBER: H621SAJ200 / H621SAJ300 (there is install PDF you can download). It just so happens, BTW, that I am selling mine, see under 5th gen for sale section. LOL.
SVXdc
PE645U1 does not have built-in USB capability. You would have to add the OEM "Media Hub" kit (which includes an appropriate, but different, aux+USB pod that you swap in place of your existing aux-only pod). The same is true for the similar-looking PE605U6 head unit.
