License Plate Relocation

Recommended Posts

hey there,

I am looking to relocate my license for my 2016 subaru legacy. At the moment I have zip tied it to my lower grille. I am not sure it will hold tight as the snow might make it fall apart. I also noticed the it is partially blocking my active grille shutter. I know that our cars don't have front screw in tow-hook. I wanna buy an aftermarket kit to relocate it else where. If anyone have any sugguestions.. Please let me know thanks in advance.

I had one custom made by a friend in my state..

Drilled into my metal bumper support for a mount and ran a flat metal piece through the lower vent and had it mount there.

It give me the exact look I was going for, which was the tow hook style mounts the WRX has.

Here's some pictures below from different angles. (The black piece on top of the plate is not part of the mount, but my external EZ Pass sensor.)

Robbie, do you happen to have any photos of the mount itself, or of the install...just picked up a new 2017, and do not want to drill through the front bumper...

I agree with the center mount, but this is better than drilling into a brand new bumper..I've been searching for an alternative way to mount it and came across this thread

Why do you want it off to the side? Right in the center looks far better than off to the side at an angle.

Do you guys know if behind our bumper has the spot for the tow hook? Like if there was a hole in our bumper, is there a place to screw in the tow hook? I've taken my bumper off a few times and never bothered to look.

IIRC there's no threads in the bumper beam.

The outback has a front one though.

Offset plate looks better in my opinion. Mimics the front plate mounts they make for the wrx/sti. Mine is essentially a metal bar bolted into the bumper support, which comes through the lower grill.

Sunday funday over here.

A license plate is a tax stamp. IMO, displaying it directly in the center of your cars face looks ugly. If it has to be on, I think offset makes it look more aggressive. Especially with the dark grill
