mmarton
Saw this post on Autoblog yesterday about the Calibre bluetooth radar/laser detector. Does anyone have experience with it or know what it costs? http://www.autoblog.com/entry/1234000863062117/
TSiWRX
Have they updated the K40 ? I've lost track of that product, but as of the last reviews I've read of them (about a year or so ago?), their ratings have really, really gone down in the face of competition from both Passport/Escort and Valentine. <-- I love Winky, my "periwinkle" (ABP) LGT! - Allen / Usual Suspect "DumboRAT" / One of the Three Stooges '16 Outback, '16 WRX, 7th Subaru Family
mmarton
The new unit apparently is easily removable since it uses bluetooth instead of wires. I just got a call from a local dealer saying he could install the unit for $1500, or $1100 if I put it myself. Otherwise, he said the Passport 8500 is a good unit combined with a jamming device that adds about $500 to the cost. As long as you're doing less than 100 MPH, it will send back a false laser signal that gives you enough time to slow down.
rao
I'm not sure about that particular unit, but the idea is brilliant. Rob IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR CAR YOU SHOULD NEVER DRIVE IT
TSiWRX
Yikes - just did a bit more research.... Got a failing grade over at RadarBusters/RadarTest compared against the top offerings from both Valentine and Bel/Escort. To note, though, they do not carry the K40.... And I'm having trouble searching out independent articles dated '03+ that address the K40. Considering the lack of independent info., at that cost (which includes neither laser jamming OR even detection!), unless you're really looking for Bluetooth integration, I'm more inclined to go with either the V1 + Blinder or one of the integrated and remote setups from Bel/Escort (i.e. RX75/SR7, respectively) - for price and performance...... <-- I love Winky, my "periwinkle" (ABP) LGT! - Allen / Usual Suspect "DumboRAT" / One of the Three Stooges '16 Outback, '16 WRX, 7th Subaru Family
