slipshod77
I was driving my wife's car today and it started making all kind of racket at a stop in either reverse or drive. It doesn't want to move forward at all, but will move in reverse. I crawled to look under the car and the new CV joint I put in last month is spinning in drive with the parking brake set. Same thing if the car is in reverse with the parking brake is set. Is this what happens when a CV axle completely separates at the outer joint on our cars? I turned the car off and there is all kind of play in the outer axle joint. I'm concerned that there might be more issues with the center or front differential, since this wasn't what I expected to experience with just a completely separated front axle. FYI, 2005 Legacy GT with 5eat. I have learned my lesson with the aftermarket axle I purchased: Heri 92100. If it's just the axle, I'll go OEM next time. Max Capacity
Lots of us have after market axles. Some are better than others. I'm no expert on 5eat's, but I think that will happen, axle has some load on it when the tranny is in gear. I think you have a outer CV joint that failed. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). CHECK your oil, these cars use it. rhino6303
I've found that every aftermarket axle I've tried does not have the retaining clip to hold the outer CV joint inside the "cup". If the axle didn't get contaminated you're better off rebooting the CV joint.
