Markbo
Really? How so? Might be worth it to do that much right now
AF_3C2
During a leak down, if the escaping air comes back out your dipstick, then rings. Valves you might hear coming out exhaust.
Markbo
Ok... Holidays sure hold up progress. Did a leak down test and they got nothing out of the dipstick and believe itnis bent exhaust valve. No idea when/how that could have happened. I am not hard on the car. Anyway quote includes $2k labor to "R&R shortblock" & $650 tp "Machine work, refresh heads" - for one only., plus $425 in parts for valvesall valves, gaslketskets, selas etc. Yhere are other misc repairs which I am OK with. But are these two items priced fairly? Do I need to do both heads? There is a problem only with passenger side as far as we know. The labor seems a bit high since the estimate incudes $375 additional for timing chain. The head work just seems high. Hell I could buy 2 new heads for about $100 more. Of course if I do that am I going to have to get new cams, etc, etc??? I.appreciate any guidance here. These Subarus are just so different than what Im used to
xt2005bonbon
OP. any update? What did you end up doing?
Markbo
I didnt think anyone was reading any more! I had to sell another kidney, but I am having both heads reworked, replacing all valves. Of course gonna change valve cover gaskets while its out. I hope this will end my issues.
xt2005bonbon
Did you really have to replace all valves?
Markbo
Cheap insurance. When you are talking about $3K for the whole job the price of a set of valves is small.
