DIY GT LTD Wagon?

Recommended Posts

I paid $23.5k for my 2005 LGT wagon unlimited BRAND new.

That's just slightly more than what I paid for my 2 year old 32k mile wagon.

I'm still sort of kicking myself for not pouncing on the 07 wagon that was relatively close to me on Cars.com earlier this year with 35k miles. At $18k, it was a pretty tempting deal.

I occasionally do a nationwide search for 07 LGT wagons and I almost always come to the conclusion that mine is better and has lower miles than what's available, usually 2 -5 cars. Finding them is hard and when they come up you need to be ready to buy as soon as you see it.

Totally agree - I just picked up a 2007 GT Wagon for a good price, but I had to fly across the country to buy it. I really like the interior on the 2007.

If you have the money to put into an 07-09 OBXT I say go for it. I think it would be cool to see one lowered to LGT height. And Tris the wagon mentality is far superior to the sedan silliness. And about those 5th gen's, who buys those anyway?!?!

You saw mine. I am basically at LGT height + 3/4s of an inch.

Somebody looking for a clean, UN modded LGT 5-speed? I'm in Austin TX, the car has 147k, new Khumos on BBS/Saab wheels, 20k on replaced clutch and pressure plate, timing belt & brakes done at 129k...still has orig. exhaust. Was in Maryland for most of its life i.e little/no snow/salt, it's never had an Access Port, nothing. Just religious oil changes with synthetic very 3-4k mi. I'm second owner, my brother was the first. Traffic here in Austin is murder with a clutch, going to something with auto for first time in my life LOL. PM me if anybody's looking...

Cheers,

Alex

Make a FS thread in the Cars For Sale forum, I bet you'll get some better action!

The speedo sensor should be on the transmission. Changing the ratio could be as simple as changing the sensor, assuming the transmissions are the same.

simple could be a relative term... I have a 1998 LGT wagon that spit a DTC for the speed sensor. The $300 harness that includes the sensor, has 5 or 6 sensors on it. Apparently you need to drop the trans pan & pull off the tail shaft housing to replace everything. Dealer labor quote is 4.5 hrs or ~$600 in my area.

Easy or cheap? LOL, it's a Subaru.

Have you worked on other cars? The Subaru is a dream to work on! Almost easier than my classic VW. Or maybe that's just because the VW constantly has so many issues... haha Also, I'd really love the speedo sensor to be on the trans, but as far as I can tell, there are two connectors on the transmission, the reverse switch, and the neutral switch. I'll check the FSM, but I'm pretty certain on that.

Yup, I do all the work on my Z32. There are definitely some things that are easier on the LGT (turbo replacement, IC removal) but there are things on the Z which are much easier (spark plugs, starter).

Just checked the LGT FSM, two sensors. Apparently the TCU gets info from multiple wheels. :/

Yep, just the reverse and neutral sensor. I don't think there is a specific module for the trans on a manual car. It appears to me that the wheel sensors all go to the ABS module. And yeah, the 300ZX is probably fairly easy being another longitudinal car. But a transverse engine front-wheeler, forgeddaboudit. Also trucks, a pain to climb up into the engine bay to work on shit.

OP-

Want to come out to the Subaru capital of the US?

Not too bad on miles, should check if timing belt has been done, but rare 5-speed and salvage due to hail (common in CO):

https://denver.craigslist.org/cto/4779561566.html ($6k)

Been in a bit of a fender bender, but I would think easily rebuildable and comes with a lot of modifications already done ($4K)

https://denver.craigslist.org/cto/4779561566.html

Cleanest and lowest mileage of the bunch, but auto and the owner doesn't seem to know the difference between 6 cylinder and turbo four:

https://denver.craigslist.org/cto/4706537081.html ($12k)

Or, if you want to keep going the XT route:

Low miles, auto:

https://denver.craigslist.org/cto/4765296236.html ($10k)

Clean limited with up to date maintenance, auto:

https://denver.craigslist.org/cto/4708522269.html ($13k)

Lower miles, will probably need timing belt, but clean!

https://denver.craigslist.org/cto/4746719827.html ($12k)

Doesn't state mileage, interior a little rougher looking, aftermarket single DIN:

https://denver.craigslist.org/cto/4742731995.html ($9k)

Originally from CA, but be wary of recent turbo swap, auto:

http://cosprings.craigslist.org/cto/4722069429.html ($12k)

And if you want to avoid all the 05-06 issues.....

LOW mileage, appears cherry, but priced accordingly and auto:

https://denver.craigslist.org/cto/4751518545.html ($16.5k)

Higher miles, little bit rougher, auto:

https://denver.craigslist.org/cto/4743901824.html ($10.5k)

Decent miles and shape, auto:

https://denver.craigslist.org/cto/4709239811.html ($12.5k)

And the grand fixer-upper for a nice ride, needs rebuild or $2k short block:

https://denver.craigslist.org/cto/4762576358.html ($13k)

Just some ideas- more selection around here, but sometimes at a higher cost due to the popularity and (sometimes) need of the AWD.

I read the thread on OB-GT suspension geometry: http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/info-ob-gt-suspension-geometry-removing-spacer-180579.html

Looks like there is a lot of work to do it right. I don't want another project right now, so I picked up a clean 2006 LGT wagon instead. After driving a 2007 LGT & 2007 OB-XT, IMHO the 2006 is a better choice. No VDC or Si-Drive...
