Received damper delete valve today and ordered Southbend Stage 2 Daily which should arrive next week, then it's back in the shop to hopefully get this clutch done right this time!

How do you like the Southbend? I am considering that or the Exedy stage 2.

I've got about 600 miles on a Southbend Stage 3 Daily and so far it is fantastic. Very oem like. I had to double check the packing slip to make sure they hadn't sent a stage 1 by mistake. According to Southbend, the only difference between stage 2 and 3 besides holding power is longer break in time and a slightly stiffer pedal. This pedal is less stiff than my cm fx350 and that pedal wasn't overly stiff.

bumping an old thread. For you guys with the Southbend clutch, did yall get a 2006-14 WRX kit? I see some listed for the Legacy but for older model years and I am unsure if they had a single mass flywheel.

I believe 05 and 06 Legacys had a dual mass flywheel. 07 to present have single mass.

After doing some digging, it seems the WRX/Impreza & Outback listings for the 2006-2014 Turbo on southbend's dropdown menus are the ones to look for with our cars. Here's a link for reference

wrxwhit is running their stg 2 daily. I'm a little confused because on southbend's site, they rate this clutch at 315 ft-lbs. Is this at the crank/wheels? I've also read that they seem to underrate their clutches. But for $577.50 for a stg 2 clutch (w/o flywheel) seems like a decent price.

The stock flywheel can be resurfaced and used if you have the time. I didn't so I just went the lazy route and bought a new one.

Make sure you get new OEM Subaru flywheel and pressure plate bolts. Both are torque to yield meaning they can only be torqued/used once. Not worth the gamble to try and reuse the old ones to save a couple bucks.

wrxwhit went SB because I did. My clutch has been good the past two years. I would imagine his has too?

This is what I have.

lol sorry Blizzard, I didn't check this thread before messaging you.

Hey Zakster here are the part #s I have for the bolts:

Pressure plate bolts (6): 800508310

Flywheel bolts (8): 800610750

I went through my dealer since they could have them ready to pick up earlier than other online sources.

Odd that the service manual doesn't mention replacing the bolts. Where did you learn they were TTY. I was under the assumption subaru didn't use one-and-done fasteners.

It's been awhile but I think it was NASIOC. I've seen differing opinions, some say you can reuse and others say no. I have definitely seen people go to re-torque and have the head of the bolt shear off completely. I've also seen people have a lot of difficulty getting them off to remove old flywheel in the first place.

Your car you do whatever you want but both times my clutch has been replaced I bought new bolts. Cheap insurance when you are spending $500-$1500 replacing a clutch.

Blizzard, would you recommend the south bend clutch for a stock gt? I'm in the market for a new clutch. I don't plan on doing many mods anytime soon. I just figured while I need a clutch, I'll throw an upgraded one in. Not sure if I should do stage 1 or 2.

Also, anyone have any input on the Exedy stage 1 clutches?

If you want to spend the money sure. Pedal feel is no different than stock. I don't think anyone's used an Exedy single disk around here. I remember reading about Impreza guys using them a while ago but I got the impression it wasn't capable of holding serious torque more of a stock replacement.

How many miles did you get out of your OEM clutch? If you're planning to stay stock I'd just use a stock clutch rather than fooling with an aftermarket which is likely to be heavier.

I have that currently installed. The pedal is a little heavier and the clutch a little grabbier. It took me a couple weeks to get where I don't feel it anymore.

Unfortunately, when I use the Cobb OTS stage 1 93 tune I think it slips a little in the lower gears.

I would recommend not getting it. Either get a stronger clutch or go stock. This one has the best of neither and costs more than stock.

Acumenhokie, I'm assuming it's still the original clutch, but I'm at 72k.

I ended up biting the bullet and getting the south bend. I'd like to get some upgrades in the future but hopefully if not, the clutch will last a bit longer for me seeing how I have a tendency to romp around. In the end it was only about $140 more than the OEM one I was looking at.

Just got clutch installed today. After running around tryin to get the flashing brake light cleared I'm now concerned that the clutch feels very light and it disengages very high. I like how light the pedal is but something doesn't seem right.
