No cabin air filter??

Recommended Posts

This past weekend I decided to install my new Kenwood DNX and JDM climate control and figured since I have the dash apart I would also change the cabin filter. Got an OEM Subaru one on Ebay for fairly cheap.

Took the glove box out, pulled the little tabs and pulled the filter tray out.

But no filter on it :confused::confused:

Took a flash light, looked everywhere but no luck. The car doesn't look like it has ever been taken apart.

The new filter fit on the tray and I installed everything back in.

Has this happened to anyone? No filter from the factory?

First question, are you the original owner? Second, did you ever have a shop "change the filter" for you?

Second owner. I did meet the first owner and he wasn't mechanically inclined at all. All the work from day 1 was done by a subaru dealership in CT and I have all his invoices. No mention of cabin air filter work performed on it. I'm starting to believe that's how it was manufactured and shipped out.

2005 didn't come with it by default. Subaru dealership has documentation where they mention that starting 2006 they included cabin filters by default on all cars.

It's sad that it took them that long... my 2001 Nissan Sentra has a cabin filter...
